Buying Band Shirts: shows or stores?
Not too long ago I heard that when you buy merchandise from a setup at a concert, the proceeds go to the band rather than buying merch from a store such as hot topic and having the majority of the money go to the store. My boyfriend, on the other hand, believes that most of the money goes to whoever set up the booth.
Is this true? Am I better off trying hot topic?
Bonus: Since hot topic doesn't have a whole lot of band tee options for girls (aside from generic mainstream emo bands) is there another store that I could try around the los angeles area?

buy at the show. at a store, the store takes a cut of the cost. the bands themselves run their merch booths (or have a friend who travels with them who does it) so they get it all i think. i've heard several bands talk about making a killing at the merch booth. plus the up and coming bands tend to hang out at the merch booth after the show and you can meet them.
as for girl shirts, try online stores at the bands website. sometimes they have stuff there they don't have in stores if you can't hit a show

I typically buy any type of merch at a show, instead of a store, simply because the merch at a show is either limited edition, or tour merch, and therefore rarely available. Things sold in stores will almost always be available, no matter what store you shop at. PLUS, buying at a show pretty much guarantees meeting the band. haha.

If it's a band you really love, you've already shelled out the money to see them live..might as well shell out the money to buy a shirt at the show (never know if you will get to go to a meet-and-greet afterwards...it'll be autographed). from my experience, the prices are about the same.
As far as options from girls, you'd be better off buying tees from the guys section about a size smaller-that way you dont have a picture of Pete Wentz across your chest.

The money will go to your favorite band without having to pay a store like hottopic for revenue sales... =)
Besides, concerts are more fun to go to than clothing stores!
