metal sticks with bells and animals on it, what are they?

What are they? There are 6 of these, and at the top are different animals. There is a Camel, Ram,Cat,Horse,Rhino,& an Elephant. They are on a metal stick with these bells ? attached by wires. No idea of what kind of metal these are made of, and there are no markings at all on them...

They seem to be skewers for food or they could be hair ornaments.I have seen this type of embellishment when I was in Morocco.

I've also seen this same decoration or ornamentation used in India. It looks to be and most probably is made of silver.

I do not believe them to be of great significance in their market value.

I believe that you can still purchase these in the listed Countries and are commonly found.

They may be of sentimental value but to be sure of what you have you can do a fews things in order to determine the true origins, value and history.

    1. You can get someone who specializes in North African or Indian antique goods(like a shop or fair) to explain this to you or to your friend.

    2. Frank Farmer Loomis is now online with a blog exploring the antiques universe, with tips, appraisals and more. Go to www.middletownjournal.com/ antiques.

If you have column questions, write to him at Middletown Journal, Attn: Frank Loomis IV, 52 S. Broad St., Middletown, Ohio, 45044 or e-mail MWallace@ coxohio.com

    3. you can go online to the sites listed below and get them to help you with information and an appraisal.

    4. If you have the time, you could also go to your local library and select a few different books. There are several available and you'll be able to compare information and prices.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers!
