Has anyone ever had any problems with NCO Collections?

You were right to not fall for the "send a copy of the check" spiel. If you had you would probably find your bank account drained (and yes they do that without even filing a law suit)

You shouldn't totally depend on Paypal to take care of the problem.

Send NCO a debt validation letter, especially if you are still within the first 30 days from thier first contact to you.

If you are still within the first 30 days, NCO "must" cease "all" collection activity until they "properly" validate, which includes not being able to report on your credit reports or not even being able to verify a dispute you make if they are reporting.

Put the ball in their court and make NCO prove that the debt hasn't been paid.

Send everything certified mail return receipt.

I just recently received a letter from NCO about a bill from 1995 and no I am not kidding. After spending 1/2 hour on the phone trying to clear up it is for an electric bill at a place I never lived at. I have spoken to two different people there and all I am getting is "pay or we will ruin your credit for 7 years."

Echo is right. This is a favorite tactic of collection agents.

You'll love this one....."Just send us a check for $5 as a good faith payment that you will pay your debt to us..."

Next thing you know, you have a lawsuit on you, which you will lose. But now the collection agent has your bank information.

Remember, the hardest part about collection a debt isn't the court case....that's easy to win. It's collecting the debt! Once they know where you work or bank it's simple to garnish your money.

NCO is a collection agency. They're as obnoxious as any other collection agency but I seriously doubt they'd do anything with your check if you faxed it to them. If you're that worried about fraud, you should probably never write a check at all as your account number is always on it for anyone that handles the check to see.

Fax them the check. cover up the account number but if you want to take care of it, send them the front and back of the check.

I've used PayPal for years and never had a problem with them. It works fine as long as you pay your bills.

regrettably, you probable have purely one recourse. you are able to touch your economic agency and request that they cancel the final transaction. they are able to even credit various the bounced examine expenses, yet probable no longer all of them. i'd additionally record the collector to the FTC.
