When you guys and gals are taking lessons, what is your favorite drill? Describe it a bit ....?

I may know it but by a diferent name. To the Junior players and people doing clinics , do you want to spend time doing footwork drills, running the lines etc. or would you rather just play and get criicism on your strokes or would you rather have the workouts described to you and do them on your own? Would you have the discipline to do them on your own, or does having your coach work you out make it easier?

My favorites are the different games.

There's shortball, in which you use only one of the service boxes for your game, which really helps with control.

There's dbounce, where you have to hit the ball so that it bounces on your side of the court and then it goes over the net-great for topspin practice.

Hatrick, which is made of two teams-baseliners versus vollyers. Every three vollyers a baseliner beats is a point. Five minutes each as a vollyer and baseliner.

And then there's egg throwing-this is for developing good hands and is great for learning drop shots. Basically, you and a partner have to toss an egg (or one of those really delicate heavy waterballoons) back and forth while steadily walking away from each other. After you get good you can catch an egg from across a football field.

  • The best way is to warmup, running lines is very effective. And then more important is to stretch. What i and my friends do is that we form a line and a guy at the other side of the court simply hits the balls to us, very unpredictably. So its like real life. We get to hit some forehands and backhands. Rallying back and forth with a partner is the best way to get better. And playing real games too. If your a competitive person. I suggest you try hard. And work on your serves, as most people judge how good you really are based on the movements of your serve. Good luck.

Besides running side to side....I like to practice volleying. It helps me get more feel and control of the ball. It helps me get comfortable with changing directions and ball placement.
