Acting black?

I dont understand why people say white people who sag and listen to rap music are trying to act "ghetto" or "black". I would really like to know what being "black" or "ghetto" is. That is basically saying that all black people act the same way and also is saying that the "ghetto" is only for black people. So before your decide that a white person is pretending to be "ghetto" maybe they are actually from that element because despite what many people seem to say not only black people live in the "ghetto"

    People love to stereotype.

Life is so much easier when you don't have to worry about treating people as individuals. Just slap 'em all into the same mold and deal with 'em all that way.

This is a sorry effin world we live in.

Actually, I think it is just a frame of mind. You can physically live in the ghetto but the ghetto does not have to live in you. It is a state of mind. People make conscious decisions to act and do the things they do. Some do it just to fit and some do it just because they want to be 'hip'. There are a variety of reasons why people are as they are. When I say that the ghetto does not have to live in you, I am not saying that all people have a choice of where they will live. You do what you have to do until you can do better. Some say the same things about people who are in the working environment. You have heard it before, 'oh they are acting white'. What! Come on get a life. People will say what they want to say Just because at time it makes them feel superior to others. Some people are just unlearned. May God Bless U.

I just want to make a comment, "Ghetto" is not German..... It was first used as an Italian word in Venie Italy to describe the area of a foundry that was identified for Jew to live there (1516 AD) the first known written form was in 1611 in Coryat’s Crudities. I am not sure why so many people are always arguing. One person asked a question and so many of you, some black and some white start to make racist slurrs, no wonder nobody gets along, to many people on both sides of the fence are racists.

I think what people mean is that these individuals are acting STEREOTYPICALLY black.

Of course not all African-Americans are from the ghetto, nor do all African-Americans subscribe to the stereotypical "hood" lifestyle and vernacular that the media assigns them.

But you need to recognize that many people who are described as "acting black," are NOT from the inner city or the ghetto but are instead emulating what they perceive as a "black" lifestyle and attitude. And many inner cities and urban neighborhoods ARE predominately black. I grew up in New York. I know this. Every stereotype has some basis in fact, but we have to be careful not to apply those stereotypes indiscriminately to all people within a culture.

For example, I'm Italian. The mafia is almost entirely Italian. But it would be ridiculous to say that all Italians are in the mafia. We're not. This is the same way. Most people who suscribe to the "thug" lifestyle you're describing are black. It's become an integral theme in some black American subcultures. But it would be ridiculous to say that most African-Americans are from the hood, or that most African-Americans act "ghetto."

Do you get what I mean?

for me, it's hard to "act black". i was raised in a home with 2 respectable parents, and a family that loves me. i have a close relationship with the family too. but anyway, some people are unfortunate because they don't have lives like mine, so they try to put on this ghetto front to make them feel better about themselves. either that, or that's just how they were brought up. We need to start trying to make better people of ourselves.

Some people just don't understand Boo, they think just because you use hip-hop language and tactics you are acting black. Believe me there is more to us than slang and ghetto talk. If you take the punishment and injustice we receive just for being black believe you me no one wants to be black that aren't born that way, but I must say I love my lushes lips, fat booty, and tight c--ch, nothing like it in the world.

I personally think you look stupid. I think the black people of the U.S. have spent a great deal of energy perfecting there cultural identity, then whitey comes a long and makes a mockery out of it by trying to emulate the hip hop lifestyle. Give them a break for once and allow them there props. In my neighborhood the brothers would have jacked your *** up already. White and that's alright.

White people who sag and listen to rap are acting black and are pathetic. Even the blacks laugh at these idiots. True Whites don't go around promoting black anti-culture.

i think that people say they are acting black is because the black rappers (besides eminem of course and a few others) were the people who started the style.

I think black people are most often imitated by other black people.

And by the way, lots of people brag about how poor they used to be, but nobody brags about how poor they ARE.
