Turkey Hunting Gun?

My neighbor is a hunting guide. We are going turkey hunting in a few weeks. I have a Mossberg Maverick 12 gauge pump. It's a 28 in barrel with screw in chokes. I am going to buy a turkey choke and 3in turkey loads. Will this be okay? I am worried about turkey huntings with such a long barreled gun.

It will work all day long, go with it.

No need of changing weapons or barrels.

That my opinion, have a good hunt.

That gun will do just fine. You won't be in the turkey's face so the longer barrel won't hurt your hunting at all. Maybe it'll get caught on branches a little more than a shorter barrel. Big whoop. If you had a choice or wanted a new turkey hun then get a shorter barreled one but your gun will do. Just get some full or tighter-than-full chokes and either 2 3/4" or 3" shells and good hunting.

That is a rather long barrel, but it will be fine. Watch the recoil tho, its gonna hurt. I wasnt really paying attention one day when i shot a 3'' out of my Remington 870 and the stock hit me in the cheeck hard enough to make it bruise and swell and hurt for a week. Good luck, turkey hunting is very fun.

    Hi.

Im with D58 and the others who say keep it.

The gun that is already in your hands, sufficient in caliber of course, must be the right gun. Going out and getting another that you may not be used to can be worrying.

Unless you would prefer to get something else of course, for shorter stuff maybe a Benelli M4? Nova?

I had a Marlin goosegun, that was an amazing firearm.

You should be fine, just remember to aim for the turkeys head. They are so tough that a body shot sometimes lets them fly away before they die.
