Roach and Ant repelant Devices, do they work?
I was wondering if anyone has used the Black and Decker Repelant devices that you plug into the electrical outlets ? I live in a large apartment building and even though I have used Combat Gel , professional roach gel and boric acid I still have roaches . Its a constant battle . My trash is out, dishes done , laundry done ,and my apt .is clean .Any suggestions ? I may have to move .

The news where I live has a "buy it and try it" section on Fridays.
They bought one of those.
It was supposed to repel Roaches, and other insects as well as rodents.
Well, they took it to a pet store that sells mice, rats, hissing cockroaches (people keep them as pets, can you believe that? Disgusting!) and feeder crickets.
They plugged it in and nothing happened.
NOTHING.
The mice and rats slept through it.
The roaches and crickets didn't even flinch.
Waste of money. Don't bother.
Have you called an exterminator? They have chemicals not available to the public.
Hire a service. They will come every month or so and re-treat for the new bugs that take up residence.
Roaches come in from dirty neighbors, are tracked in on clothes and grocery bags/boxes. They have colonies in walls that have to be elliminated for them all to be gone.

ANT BAIT
You'll find it effective, but be patient -- it may take a week to 10 days to be fully effective.
In the meantime kill ants in the house with Windex or another ammonia-based cleaner. Clean and kill, all in one motion.
Recipe:
1 part 20 Mule Team Borax or Boric acid
9 parts of a sweet sticky liquid like maple syrup, honey or Karo syrup
Mix the ingredients. Heating in a double boiler may speed the process. Take an empty margarine tub and poke 4 holes around the bottom edge (entry holes for ants to walk in).
Place a dollop the size of a quarter in the middle of the tub, then put the top back on. This mixture is not non-toxic, however it is less toxic, and that's the key to its success.
The ants carry it back to the nest where they feed it to the entire colony and wipe out the nest.

I haven't tried repellant devices but I know Raid roach motels work. It isn't a fast solution but I know it works. Buy 2 packages & put most in rooms with a water supply and 1 in each bedroom. Be sure to replace in 3 months. You should see a difference as soon as 1 week. You will know when its been about 3 months as you will see more roaches. Be sure to buy 2 more packages. It took me about 9 months but I got rid of them completely (it was a bad infestation!). I don't know about ants.

I have used similar plug-in products in the past and all they seem to do is transfer the problem to another room. I find the best way of getting rid of ants ( as we dont have Roaches in ireland) is to find where they are coming in and pouring some malt vinegar along the entrance. This work every year for me. Good luck.

Yeah, I got one of those pieces of garbage. Don't waste your time or money.
Apartment buildings are notorious for this problem. Once the maintenance crew treats one building, the bugs move to another. Then the crew goes to another building, the bugs move back. People constantly moving in & out. bringing who knows what with them.
When I lived in an aprtment, I used boric acid. But I see you already tried that.
Good Luck

Have you asked your neighbors for advice yet ? They probably have the best solution already in use.
As for ants, I used those clear plastic discs that have poison inside them. They worked well. Also my friend used the ant killer foam spray on carpenter ants in his deck. Roaches are nasty hard to kill but I bet one of your neighbors has a product that works for your city.

Boric acid, it is very effective when used properly for killing cockroaches and most other insects. You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them.
