How much sleep should a 5 month old baby get?
She sleeps an average of 8 - 12 hours at night. Durring the day she sleeps about 4 - 6 hours in 3 naps. Is this normal? When will she be awake more often? She's not behind developmentally, as a matter of a fact she's advanced.

That's perfect! A 5 month old baby should be getting around 15-17 hours in a 24 hour period so your little girl is doing just as she should be. My 7 month old is down to 2 naps a day but they are both 2 or even 3 hour naps. When babies don't get enough sleep their bodies don't get the time they need to develop and grow...not to mention they aren't much fun to be around cause they're cranky. I have a little girl in my in-home daycare who is 9 months old now and her mom didn't give her naps (maybe one 20 min nap a day) and she was SO hard to deal with, cranky all the time, didn't even play just whined all day. Now that I've gotten her on a schedule of two naps a day, she is a much happier baby. Sleep is so important so just keep up the good work and make the most of the time you have when she's awake to play and interact with her. Great job mom :)

dang, babies are so different.
i have a 4 month old and i swear, since he was 1 month he does not sleep during the day, very, very seldom will he sleep 45 minutes during the day. but, and i thank God for this, he sleeps wonderfully during the night, he does wake up once maybe twice for his bottle but he doesnt cry, i just feel him moving his had from side to side looking for it and once i give it to him, he falls right back asleep.
but like i said babies are different and yurs just seems like a sleepy baby, and that sleep time is normal, she'll soon be more awake. try playing with her a little more but not too much cuz that will tire her out.
but i wouldnt worry, thats just her sleeping style.
later when shes running around grabbing everything, yur gonna say oh how i wish yu would take a nap!!! haha

This is absolutely fine. Slowly she will reduce her daytime sleep and start playing more. It does not happen in one day. It will happen over a period of time.
There are times when they are awake for 8 hours also. Mine used to do this since he was 2 months old.

It is normal for babies to sleep alot. As they get into toddlerhood, the amount of sleep will lessen, but still be alot. naps usually end at five years of age, but varies from child to child.

Thats good, she is getting required sleep, which helps it to grow faster.
