Are groups like MADD helping society ?

Or are they just venting their anger and resentment to create standards that are causing more repeat offenders cause they can't survive with the things these groups feel they should live by ?

Yes, but they are now starting to go to far, much like the old prohibition groups. Individual Rights and societal Rights need to be carefully balanced,. If one or the other has too much power, society suffers.

You're asking if MADD members are venting their anger and resentment? I should hope so. Many of these women have had an innocent child or family member killed because of some drunk driver. You don't think that qualifies as reason for anger and resentment? Put yourself in their shoes - if you can. If you're looking for an excuse to drink and drive, I pray you don't kill anyone because that is something you will have to live with the rest of your life - and then you'll see how angry and resentful MADD members can be. they have hurt far more than you will possibly ever, in your pompous, arrogant way, have to suffer. When is it necessary to drink and drive? Can you honestly justify that when it has caused so many unncessary deaths? Who can't "survive" with the things these groups want? Survive is a pretty strong word. There are programs for people who have a problem with alcohol and if someone cannot survive without it... he or she definitely needs help. How can trying to stop the death of an innocent child cause repeat offenders? Just another case of feel sorry for the bad guy, who cares about the kid who died or the family that has to go on without that child, right? I'm a mother and have never lost a child, but the very thought of the amount of grief that would cause is unfathomable.

I think MADD is a good AND terrible organization. I obviously don't think anyone should be driving around three sheets to the wind, but a "standard" test is not fair to anyone.

For instance, assuming the limit where I am is .08--I don't think I'd be able to drive at .05, but if I blew, they'd let me go, and then I'd go kill someone on the road.

If my boyfriend blew a .10, he'd be fine, but they'd hassle him and take him to jail, wasting time and taxpayer money.

Are the MADD-ites actually driving around checking to see who is driving drunk? No. Are they just blowing hot air that kids don't listen to anyway? Yes. They're just a sideshow.

It depends...some people take it too seriously and think they can use their anger. If they group together and actually try to make things safer and better, then yes, they would help society.

Their reason for existing is admirable, but I am not sure that they have ever discouraged anyone from driving while intoxicated.

    They are helping many !

They get a lot of respect everywhere for doing instead of sitting down doing nothing.
