He's old enough to go into a walker if he can sit up on his own. Just don't let him stay in it all the time, because floor time is still better for him. remember to keep him away from stairs, etc... with it.

Buy him a walker, but just don't keep him in it for long, because his dones are still soft and if he puts too much pressure on them he could have bowed legs. As far as crawling, sometimes, they skip crawling and head straight for walking. He is only five months though he should learn how to crawl at about six or seven.

One of my sons was like that. He was a very strong, active baby and as soon as he was able to, he would reach up, grab onto the furniture, pull himself up and walk while holding onto the furniture. Maybe he was just curious about all the things that were higher than the floor. He did this before he learned to crawl around.
An approved walker should keep your little guy out of harm's way at times, if you want to use one, and it gives him more time to develop muscle, and get his bearings. But each baby develops as he is inclined to do.
Aren't they wonderful?

Can you still buy walkers? They are so dangerous.
Buy an Excersaucer instead, he can sit and bounce in it and it has lots of activities.
