Yes it is. Most places with big ego's like New York or California are overrated. NYC is great no doubt about that; but it's not the best place on earth by any means. I live in CA and this state is also overrated; it's a great place to live and I love it but it's not as great as people percieve it or the how the media portrays it.

NYC is not the center of the universe and anyone who thinks so is full of shiit. Ca maybe overrated but that's b/c so many people want to live here, but it can't be any more overrated than NYC.

Mike M: if NYC is so great then why would you spend 4 months out of the year living somewhere else. I live in San Diego all 12months of the year and it's great; all the New York transplants seem to love it too. A place where people leave every year for an extended amount of time obviously cannot be that great or else they wouldn't be leaving. It's not about a "change of pace" you idiot, it's about NYC having shiity weather and people needing to leave that hellhole b/c it's so damn cold in the winter and humid as shiit in summer. And it's only a matter of time before a Cat 3 hurricane puts that place underwater; hopefully it will help clean up that dirty a*s city.

Our governor is great and has done many good things for CA and is a true bipartisan leader. At least we don't pay it up the a*s in property and sales taxes like NY and all for what; sh*tty schools, bad roads, and dirty streets.

CA women are 10x hotter than your trashy loud mouth New Yorkers who wouldn't know class if it hit them on the head. "I wish they all could be CALIFORNIA girls" is the song and not I wish they all could be loud mouth New York trash.

Your bars may stay open a little later b/c you guys probably need to get really drunk to put up living in such a dirty, crime ridden cesspool. But everyone know CA know's how to party and we keep it rockin like the song California Love says. I think the only songs I've ever heard about New York are Broadway songs; figures though.

No basketball team?!?! Are you serious? CA has 4 NBA basketball teams and NY has 1! The Knicks have the most overpaid roster in the NBA. THe have the highest payroll and they suck and are not even going to make the playoffs this year. THat's how you losers try to win, with money and not talent. The Yankees being the best example of that. So go ahead and waste money on overrated players for overrated teams that can't make the playoffs or get knocked out in the first round. But that's NYC for you, OVERRATED AND OVERPRICED.

"live my Eurpoean lifestyle" hahaha. You sound like the typical pretentious, snobby east coast wannabe. You think you are "European" and then you try to say New Yorkers are "real"?!?! I didn't know ACTING real meant acting like some p*ssy Euro trash. You losers are so prententious and full of yourselves with your wannabe "euro" attitude. Please stay over on the east coast, we don't need you wannabes over here b/c in CA we keep it real.

Bottom Line: NYC was once the nation's great city and the center of many things, but then the 20th century came around and the city is trying to cling onto it's past greatness. NYC has so many things wrong with it; The ego and attitutes of people there just sucks and talk about an inferiority complex ; always needing to tell yourself NYC is the center of the universe b/c you know in reality that it's not. CA is the WORLD's 8th largest economy and we are the powerhouse of this nation. If you think NY is the center of it all then you, like the city, is a joke.

I love living in New York. I love how much there is to do on very little money, I really enjoy all the people I meet, the energy of the city, the beauty of the surroundings, and the great mixture of races, colors, religions, et al. I love not having to drive anywhere, and still I can get wherever I want to go. I like that there are plenty of cultural events available even to those with little money. I love having free lectures at the libraries, and at the bookstores. I love riding my bike in the parks, and listening to all kinds of music that spontaneously erupt all over the city. I love going to local grocery stores and finding food that I do not even recognize. I love going to Coney Island in the summer, and sitting on the beach, and eating a hotdog. I love walking over the Brooklyn Bridge, just for the heck of it.

I do not think living in New York is overrated at all. I doubt that on my low salary I could live as well anywhere else!

NYC is the center of the Universe for a reason. I had to move from NYC for job reasons, and really miss it. Yes, its not as cheap as other cities. But In this country, where can you get that can kind of stimulation of a nyc outside of Nyc, you cant.

Im trying to move back, The weather is not the greatest, but compared it to Chicago, Detroit, Denver or Minneapolis - NYC is wonderful.

The people of NYC make NYC one of the greatest places on Earth. To the person, from California. California is paradise lost 25 years ago. California is very overrated. NYC is culture, people and food and The sheer Density of NYC is wonderful.

If I was Rich and could Live Anywhere, i would live in NYC most of the year, and Miami 4 months in the Winter.

To the Moron from california: Some people Like a change of pace, and just because they can afford to live in 2 cities, doesnt make 1 better than the other. But most New yorkers live in Nyc year round. A lot of Rich people Live in Miami in the winter. Just like many Canadians live in San Diego in the Winter.

Californians live in a NAZI environment, where they have the terminator for governor, last call at 130am(NYC is 5am/6am) and where there is 2 geeky california guys for every spoiled plastic california girl. No basketball team, no broadway plays, no arts, no musuems, and really no history

Nyc women are very beautiful, but very real. You can have your fake california girls, and Ill stay on the east coast and live my european lifestyle. You stay in San Diego and have your pseudo mexican asian lifestyle.

Bottom Line: Theres something very real about the beat, the pulse, and the energy of NYC and the people of NYC. The business, news, art, music and fashion capital of the country and the world. And no one can deny that!

    It depends.

It's not overrated if you compare it to living in Indiana.

It is overrated if you compare it to living in Tuscany.
