96 Ford F350 with Power Stroke.?

I am working on a 96 F350 with a Power Stroke diesel.

In the morning, I need to give it just a smidge of either. The rest

of the day it will start and run fine, but smokes. HOw do you go about checking the glow plugs, or any thing else it may be?

If you have access to a scan tool, monitor your ICP (injector control pressure) and IPR duty cycle (injector pressure regulator) data. On that particular model year, it was pretty common to have the IPR o-rings tear, causing the symptom you describe. To test the glow plugs, you need to check for supply voltage to the harness that goes into the valve covers. If all checks out good, you may need to remove the valve covers to check the wiring going through the valve cover gaskets. You should also monitor your EOT (engine oil temperature) and IAT (intake air temperature) data. I don't know what the temperature is exactly, but I do know that above a certain ambient temperature, the PCM won't turn on the glow plugs. Also, the glow plugs are supposed to stay on for as long as two minutes even AFTER the engine has started up, in order to reduce white smoke. Hope this helps.

The glow plug is only for starting cold, check your fuel pressure, compression, and injectors. The injectors may be worn out...smoking when warm is fuel/air or compression.

The description leads me to believe the glow plugs are working, but too much fuel delivery is causing all this...

a guy or woman can do despite, every time to their motor vehicle- they might void the producer's guarantee, yet it truly is a moot element right this moment. Exhaust gadget isn't any. a million intake gadget isn't any. 2 an intercooler isn't any. 3 a programmer isn't any. 4 gauges (if yer gonna get too nutsso) might desire to bypass in in the previous a programmer Programmer isn't any. 4 by using fact with out the intercooler, the reward of any reprogramming are marginal at superb.
