Is Dodge Magnum an SUV or a wagon?

Wagon....guy above has it correct the Magnum/300/charger (LX platform) all share components of the Mercedes C & E-class cars. This car is 100% wagon.....even the car magazines place the Magnum into the Wagon category. The Magnum especially the R/T and SRT8 versions will blow most SUV's out of the water when it comes to power and handling! 100% WAGON

It's a close relative of the old time station wagon, which was just a modified four door sedan that had a roof above the rear section instead of a trunk. There were some two door station wagons, but for the most part, people who needed station wagons also needed the four doors as well, for carrying the whole crew around more efficiently. My state even classifies mini-vans as station wagons, so the term is often interchangeable or misused. Even small cars with a hatch back are similar to station wagons, but not quite. They are half way between car (sedan or coupe) and station wagon. I classify cars based on the way they are built. I own a body shop, so I get to take a lot of them apart. Anything that is not a full blown SUV (blazer, trailblazer, escape explorer, escalade, yukon, typical 4x4 body type) is just a station wagon, including the magnum, pacifica,(which is almost a mini-van, but not quite)etc. Most guys with magnums don't want it to be a station wagon, but it is, just like the famous 2 door Chevy Nomads back in the 1950s. It's sporty and muscle car like, but it's still a station wagon, which is not a bad thing. It's actually quite practical. If I wanted a muscle car, but I needed the room of a small minivan or suv, I'd get a magnum. After all, it would be tough to carry my guitars and amps and equipment around in a Porsche.

For a mechaninc, the chap above me doesn't know much about cars -- or at least the Dodge Magnum. There is NOTHING about the Magnum that makes it even 'half' SUV. It is built on the Chrysler LX platform which borrows components from the Mercedes S-Class and E-Class. It's a wagon! Plain and simple! Even the optional AWD doesn't change the fact that it's a SEDAN platform!

It's actually an innovative product to this generation, a 'throwback' to the old station wagons of a couple of generations ago and the 'hatchback' of the next generation after the station wagons. Yet, this is neither the traditional station wagon, nor the uninspired hatchback. This car is stylish and sporty. It's a sporty Wagon. It is NOT an SUV.

i own a repair shop and i looked at one to buy ,and in my opinion i think its about half and half, but after test driving one of those ,its not no ordinary SUV that's for sure.they have plenty of power and room in them, they do run good and perform really well also,if you buy one ,you can name it half breed ,good luck, hope this helps.
