Can taxes be different from one city to another?

i live in vista ca and taxes here are 8.25%. half a cent higher than other cities like oceanside or encinitas

    Yes, every city is different. It all starts with federal, then state, then county, then city. And cities can change sales tax at any time without notice. I own a restaurant and was not notified of sales tax increase so for one week I wasn't charging enough sales tax but still had to pay the full amount to the State. Thank goodness one of my customers mentioned it to me. When I called the city they said yeah, sales tax increased but the IRS should have notified me, which they didn't.

    Yes, they can be. Along with state taxes, there can be local option taxes as well and that can vary by quite a bit from city to city.

    Yeah, it can. Some towns have local income or sales taxes as well as the state and federal taxes.
