Is there a non lethal chemical to kill salmonella in a fish tank?

I had a turtle for 3 days, and have re-released it bact to the wild, because my wife got sick from salmonella. Long story shory, now half of my waterfilled 33 gal tank is probably loaded with it. I have live plants and feeder fish in there and dont want to go thru the whole dumping and sanitizing thing if I dont have to. Is there a chemical on the market that is fish and plant friendly? If not, I'll just sanitize it and start over. Thanks!

Update:

Just to clarify, I should have stated earlier, this was a baby turtle who was headed away from a creek onto a street with about 20,000 cars passing by daily, he was headed towards death, it wasnt from the "wild" per se. I also did a lot of research and made sure I had all the right equipment for him, Im out about $150 bux over this.

You re-released a turtle into the wild? That means you took a turtle frolm the wild?

Never ever take turtles or any animals from the wild because they carry diease and you disrupt nature. Please buy turtles ina pet store. Also, if you bought it at a pet store, never dump turtles and frogs into the wild, it throws off the natural balance of things and non-native species can wipe out entire native species.

As for your samonella in the tank, you can use Ozone to deinfect it and it will not harm youjr plants or fish. I have linked you to a site explaining it and where to buy it

Just sanitize and start over. Sorry to say it, but it serves you right for taking a turtle from the wild. They dont belong in out homes, they belong in their homes.

There are no chemicals that will reduce salmonella, once its there its there. Start over, sanatize, and stock your tank with some nice aquarium fish. Good luck.
