Fresh veggies should be a part of many fishes diet, especially fish like plecos. Carrot, lettuce, spinach, squash, zuchinni, just to name a few. For plecos feeding them these items at night after you turn off the tank lights is a good idea. They are more comfortable eating then and the other fish won't get it all before the pleco. Don't leave veggies in the tank too long, a few hours to over night is about the limit before they would begin to foul the tank. Try it a few days a week, your fish will thank you for it.

I feed my plecos various squash. They love it. It is hilarious to see them attack it. To prepare it: Make a pot of boiling water. Dip the squash in it for just about 30 seconds (to kill germs). Then freeze the squash. This will cause the fibers of the squash to begin breaking down. Defrost & anchor with a veggie clip to the side or bottom of the tank. I usually cook up several pounds of squash at once, then defrost 1 piece at a time. WARNING: Fish all the leftover loose particles out of the tank daily. The plecos will not bother with eating them & the decaying matter will cloud your water & clog your filter.

Yes many people feed larger freshwater fish veggies. My cousin's grandmother fed her larger pleco carrots which she tied to a piece of weighed down driftwood.

Yes... For any fish, research about Its food, and prepare a food it will eat. For example, a betta will gobble a pea cut in 8ths. That's all to it. Ohh, and make sure the fish can swallow it, other wise you'll have a dead fish!

for a pleco you can use zuccini or that yellow squash that looks like zuccini. ive never heard of cooking it before, we just slice it up like a pickle spear and weight it down then take it out after about 24 hours otherwise it starts to fall appart
