Does anyone know if I can update from Ubuntu 6.06 to Ubuntu 6.10 without loseing the data on my drive?

I want to upgrade to 6.10 but I'd like to do it without backing up my data if I can because I can't get my burner to work in 6.06 but it will in 6.10.
