How Would You???? How Do You??

So we adopted an abused dog this week, and things are going great, except the fact that now she is beginning to chew up our shoes. She has ruined a couple of pairs of my very expensive heels, and I have caught her with several other things. I have gotten her plenty of toys that she does play with, but she seems more interested in our stuff. How would I discipline her for doing this, and teach her that it is wrong? since she was abused, I dont want to loser her trust.

Update:

spell check: I don't want to lose her trust. Sorry about that. lol

It's a sign that she is distressed at being without you.

There is a product called chew guard... a spray... for most dogs, it only takes one chomp of an object sprayed with nasty tasting chew-guard before they learn not to chew. I'd set her up to chew...

As for the distress... that is something only time, love, patience, and caring can take care of. It will come. A friend of mine bought a fleece blanket... and slept with it for a few nights. She then gradually introduced it to her dog... having something that smelled like the pup's 'comfort people' really helped her dog (who was also abused).

Best wishes... and good on you! It takes a lot of caring, but well worth it in the end.

be sturn with her, is she a baby? they chew naturally, either way get her a couple toys of her own,and when she start chewing on something shes not supposed to, give her her toy,.its a hard habit to get thru, but be patient, put your shoes up where she cant get them, shell probably grow out of it!! good luck.

Keep plugging away with her toys,,,she's probably happy to be free of abuse and can smell you guys on your stuff, so maybe feels secure...

Why don't u buy her some shoes. Maybe she will chew hers & not yours anymore.

Maybe she likes your shoes odour. Spray your shoes with odourless spray 2 distract her interest to it.

I would contact a dog trainer.
