How do I get my trunk to open when I push the button?

I have an 02 Buick Century whose trunk can only be opened with the key. We push the button inside it, or we push the button on the keyring, and it still doesn't open. Does any one know how I can fix it myself, what part I would need, and if it is a simple enough problem that my husband can fix it? We are poor college students, so we need to go inexpensive, and if it costs too much, we just won't worry about it. Any ideas, you smart people out there?

Update:

So about that trunk switch that a couple of you have mentioned, Is there any place in particular I should look in the trunk for it? Do you know if it is labeled or anything?

lol --to thebillthatknows, believe me, you CAN be poor and own a 2002 Buick Century. It's called taking out a loan. ;)

Look around inside the trunk. There is usually a switch that deactivates the cabin trunk release. Check to see if it has been turned off. This happens to me when I put a lot of stuff in the trunk. If nothing is wrong, maybe take it to the dealer.

Check the fuse for that circuit. Most likely it is blown. If the fuse is good, replace the battery in the key fob.

To find that trunk switch, you must get into the trunk. Have the trunk key with you. Have your husband close the trunk lid.

Are you asserting which you haven't any longer have been given an option *key lock* with which you would be able to *MANUALLY* open the lid of the trunk?!? OHMYGAWD!! desire and Pray that the challenge basically *would* be that your motor vehicle battery has gotten too low in voltage ability to activate the essential *electric punch* mandatory for the "convenience gadgets" to accomplish precise. if so, basically a "leap-initiate" improve from yet another vehicle's totally charged battery may well be adequate to get you into your "frozen" trunk AND -- get you to start your engine -- and then! -- to disconnect from the help motor vehicle's battery and notice if *your individual* motor vehicle's recaharging device is working precise! (verify the guages on your dashboard heavily!) desire this helps!

the are several possibilities, fuse, switch on release motor, key fob,or the relay located in the left panel of dash by the door. best advice if you cant figure it out yourself, take it to a shop and give them a limit on how much to spend. a knowledgeable tech should be able to find the problem in less than an hour.

There might be a "defeat" button for this function.

This is sometimes built into a car to prevent valet parkers, or service people from getting into your trunk.

Read your owners manual, or find an owners website.
