Dog breeding in general...?
We have a really sweet male purebread 15" beagle and we wish to stud him....where can I find great info on how to breed dogs so we can do it well and have dogs the same temperament as he has...
thank you so much first 3 answerers....then the next 3 seemed to need to try to prove a point...The reason there r so many dogs in the world is people that don't take care of their dogs and have them spade or neutered...We have four dogs..3 are neutered....This one we planned on breeding after we got a good female...We would like to breed because we love the breed....But we won't breed until we know how to do it right....So, for anyone that feels they are going to comment to this to SAVE THE DOGS....don't bother please....Thank you

The first thing you must do is finish your dog's championship in the conformation ring. Any responsible breeder will required that before considering using your dog as a stud. The show ring is the proving ground of quality for breeding. A dog that is not of a quality to finish it's championship is NOT of a quality to be bred.
Also, the owner of the FEMALE is the breeder of record and owner of the pups, so you would not own them.
HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE DECIDING TO BREED YOUR DOG:
Have they completed their AKC championships in the ring, thereby proving their quality as breeding stock?
Have you studied their pedigrees to determine possible genetic defects going back decades?
Have you evaluated male and female against the written breed standard to determine why their particular offspring would make a viable contribution to the breed?
Have you done the requisite health tests?
Are you willing to have their eyes and hips certified?
Do you understand the risk to the female in breeding her?
Are you willing to pay for a Caesaran, (quite common in beagles, about $1,000.00 + postnatal care)
Are you willing to supplement and tube feed puppies for 24 hours a day?
Are you willing to spend 12 weeks hand raising puppies in your home?
Are you willing to go to the expense of 12 weeks of shots and wormings for however many puppies you bring into the world?
Are you willing to interview dozens of potential pet buyers to determine exactly which ones will be the absolute Best homes for your puppies?
Will you have a spay/neuter clause in your pet buyer contract requiring proof of spaying/neutering before each pup is 6 months old?
Will you GUARANTEE that for if ANY reason during the life of the puppies you've bred, their owners can no longer keep them, they must be returned to you?

Well you certainly don't look for such important information here! Don't breed your dog just because you CAN or WANT to. There are plenty of beagles to go around and some that die because no one wants them.
Edit:
You can still love the breed without breeding - that's a horrible excuse to breed. Try volunteering at a beagle rescue instead.

it is Purebred....because your dog is SWEET does in no way make him of breeding quality.. if you are looking for another pet dog.. contact a reputable breeder and get yourself one.. breeding takes tons of time, researching the genetic health of all dogs in the pedigree etc.. best left to the people who devote their lives to this science- outcross breeding will in no way guarantee temperaments of pups.... please please learn more.. a good place to learn is by going to dog shows and speaking with the breeders/exhibitors there - they can help you.. you should also show your dog BEFORE breeding to have him evaluated as breeding stock.. hips/elbows etc. also need to be exrayed BEFORE breeding - same for the ***** etc.
