"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" is short but so very intimate and interesting. Definitely check it out. It is popular among younger crowds, but I think it is a classic

Search for the Sun by Ellen Anthony. If you like to solve mysteries and love great characters, that's one you won't want to miss. The villain killed himself a hundred pages before the end of the book and I still didn't know everything he did!

I've been caught by a couple......the Bourne novels by Robert Ludlum, (very exciting), Relic, by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child (scary),and Patricia Cornwell and Jonathan Kellerman books. All of them. Pulled a lot of all nighters.

Yes it happened to me on more than one occasion. The last one I guess it was The History of Love, by Nicole Krauss. She's a damn good writer.
