exfoliate first.
lotion on knees, hands, heels, and elbows.
mix the self tanner with lotion. (1/4 self tanner to 3/4 lotion)
apply to damp skin until completely soaked in (circles is better).
reapply when totally dry.
next day or 2 mix 1/2 and 1/2 (no exfoliation needed. only once a week)
when you get a good base tan :
if you want to go darker keep applying 1/2 and 1/2 .
if you want to stay at that darkness apply everyother to every 3 days at 1/4 tanning lotion and 3/4 lotion.
make sure to wash your hands after applying.

I wouldn't use the lotions. They are just not good or reliable enough to get even. The aerosol sprays work wonders!!! I use the deep by Neutragena even though im fair skinned. It looks beautiful. After a bath I jump in the shower stall and close the door and spray away. Ive never had any problems with streaks or runs with the aerosol. Its very cool and soothing to apply also. But let your shower run so the rest of the tanner will clear off the bottom of your shower after your done. Try not to take a bath or shower for 6-8 hours.

Well I myself have never used anything until recently. I used BeautiControl's new Leg Apeel. It's a 3-step system. A lotion goes on just before bed to help exfoliate. Then in the morning you use the leg scrub to slough off all the dead skin. And then you apply the third step...the self-tanner. Your legs are smooth as silk...so as you apply the tanner in circular motion, it glides on smooth. And I just kept rubbing my legs until it was all soaked in. No lines or streaks...except for one spot I missed. It was my first time. ; )

put it on very lightly at first and do a little more each day until it gets to the desired darkness. make sure to wash your hands after because it can turn your nails yellow. if you do get streaks use lemon juice to help reduce them.
also another option if you're willing to spend a little money is spray tan boothes. some can be as low as $17. search online for some in your area.
hope this helped hon!

Well I like Jergens natural glow and olay touch of sun so it may be the one your using but i'm not sure. But what I do is keep rubbing it with a lot of pressure until it feels all even. You can also dab a tissue over the areas afterwards to ensure no thicker spots.

You could try using a full-lenth mirror to help make sure you've gotten the lotion on evenly. If you still are getting streaks, try using lemon juice to even it out.

A lot of people use sponges. I think the spray on ones are good. Either way, make sure to use plastic gloves so your palms wont turn orang.
