First of all, David M "I don't Khnow, they're dumb" try spell check before insulting anyone, you tard.

Anyway, I don't know. I think were too stubborn to correct it. It had to be some guy who was really stubborn and did not want to change it when it was created.

I got this off wiki answers though:

"But the real story is deeper. The origin of American football is in the history of the world's most popular sport: soccer. When soccer -- more universaly known as "football" (which of course makes sense because soccer players use their feet) -- participants decided to change their centuries-old game with restrictions such as the no-use of hand rules, people who disliked this broke away to create rugby. In the states we have created our own version of the game under the same old name "football" with more of a rugby style, the whole time forgetting why we call it that."

Why don't you dress up in a Dallas Cowboys jersey and show up at Lincoln Financial Field spouting off about our great game. We in Philly have a way of communicating our expertise of the game that is unequaled in the world of sports. Get some of our Brotherly Love. We'll make sure you leave with a greater sense of respect.

    1) to answer your question...because when the game was invented there was no forward pass. the ball only advanced by running, hence the name FOOT..

    2) i pose a question to you...why do uneducated Euros; who smell, dress like 3 year old retards, have mullets (which was cool in the US in 1985, guess youre just too far behind the US on that one) ask stupid questions all the time?

take a shower, brush your teeth, get some braces (cause you know your teeth are as crooked as your tube system) and stay out of our forum!! why dont ask other soccer fans why they riot when theyre crappy team lose.

the term 'football' derives from old celtic folk games played by towns people against one and other. Old rules of the game were: - Two Teams, Two sides of the towns limits, Each team must attempt to advance the 'Ball' to one or the other ends of the town. The most common limb used to move the ball was usually the foot and therefore adapted games have taken on the name like 'football'.

I don't care if this is insulting to you or other yahooians, you are a dip s h i t. If you don't like "American" football then don't post questions in this category.

I don't post questions in the soccer category...like "Why do psychotic soccer fans kill the goalie or referee if their team loses a game?" So...stay out of my category...DUMBASS.
