Why do some Muslims let the Koran do the thinking for them?
Fundamentalism is irrational and an insult to a person's intelligence and free will.
What is it about Islam that demands such uncritical obedience from its followers? Is there anything in the Koran that necessarily prohibits Muslims from thinking out of the Koran box?

Being Christian, I understand (and abhor) Christian fundamentalism. I am less familiar with Islam and the Koran.

Its not just Islam, its all patriarchal religions.
They cannot think 'out of the box' because to them, the whole of life IS 'the box' and it was made by THEIR supernatural being who is GOOD.
Any thought outside of that myth is attributed to temptation by ANOTHER supernatural being who is BAD, m'kay?
They say they are allowed to think, but they can only think about what it says in their book. Anything outside of their book is bad.
Ask a Muslim if they can think outside of the Quran, and they will usually say that the Quran tells them to think about what is said in the Quran.
Which kind of illustrates the whole point.

All Muslim have free will and free thinking. You don't know many Muslims I'm guessing? Do I follow Islam yes, but what is it that you think i am "supposed" to follow that is an insult to my intelligence, or free will?
What make you think Muslims are fundamentalists? I thought "out of the Koranic box" for 34 years of my life and "free will" is why i chose it. Maybe if you actually had any knowledge of Islam you would not ask such a redundant question.

Let me ask u a question.
Have you read the quran?
I guess not . So why bother saying Krap.
I'm not saying that Islam is the true religion cause that is just going to be biased. But let me tel u one thing.
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world . And you will never guess where its growing most.. AMERICA. if u don't believe me go and search it on Google.
America is probably the country that thinks of Islam very negative because of how the media portrays it . but some intelligent people think OUTSIDE THE BOX and think there must be more to the religion then what is shown about it.
Islam makes you THINK . Just think for your self, all these people that are converting have not being forced. They do it in there own will power. there must be something about the religion .

let me tell u what I think.koran is like a book in which ur parents gave u which contains their adivces to how to life right and good and never bring problems to ur self and to not do things u may regret doing one day.and u r free to obey the basics they give u in order to life happier and get through anything u face in ur whole life.or not obeing and then suffering because of not following the basics given to u.
the same koran contains what allah(god)said with a lot of advices of how to have an easier and happier life on earth.
when the koran say like most of other religious books pray.it's because god wants to make u feel that he's always close to u to help u in ur life.and u r totally free to obey or not.koran does not force u to obey and follow without thinking.it just gives u basics to ur life to protect u from being or feeling lost.

The same reason some Christians let the Bible do their thinking for them. However, I imagine that in the big scheme of things not that many do that. Every religion in the world has its share of fundamentalists, not just Islam and Christianity.

definite. The Quran is a non violent e book, like the Bible. and prefer the Bible, it incorporates violent passages. The violent passages contained in the Quran in simple terms manage situations even as your faith is less than attack, which Islam isn't, for this reason, any Muslims who commits violence is doing so in contradiction of the Quran.

why do christians and catholics let the pope think for them?
muslims dont let the quran think for them...they let it speak to them.....however, there are muslims that allow scholars to think for them which accounts for alot of muslims not having basic understanding of Islam....very sad.
the same can be said for every religion regardless...
The first verse from God in the Quran that he gave us was an order to Read and discover the truth....sadly, reading has gone by the wayside while people watch tv and cause havoc in the world in general and let "scholars" discover the truth and promote it to the world without too much objection.

The Articles of Faith in which one "True in Faith" (a moslem) must believe:-
1. God
2. His Angels
3. His Messengers
4. His revealed Books
5. The Day of Resurrection
6. Divine Preordainments (Prophecy)
i.e. whatever God has ordained must come to pass.

The PROOF that the True Bible still
exists is in the Koran:-
Sura 32:23. We did indeed aforetime give the Book (Torah) to Moses: be then NOT IN DOUBT of its (The Torah) reaching (THEE): and We made it a Guide to the Children of Israel.
Sura 10:94. If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee (the Bible): the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no way one of those in doubt.
10:95. Nor be of those who reject the Signs of "I AM" (the Bible), or thou shalt be of those who perish.
15:9. We have, without doubt, sent down the Message (to all of the Messengers); and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). (By showing how to correct it).
Idris/Enoch 102:7 Now will I point out a mystery (Revelation 17:5): Many sinners shall turn and transgress against The Word of Uprightness (Isaiah 33:15; 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12; Sura 32:23).
THE INCORRECT WRITING OF GOD'S WORDS PROPHESIED:-
102:8 They shall speak evil things; they shall utter falsehood; create a great creation (false religions and religious traditions and technology); and compose books of their own words (books of man-made laws; books of the religious traditions of their fathers; novels; etc.; etc.; etc.).
HOW TO RECOGNISE AND CORRECT THE MISTAKES:-
But when they shall write correctly all My words in their own languages,
102:9 They shall neither change nor diminish (Mark 13:31; Matthew 5:17-19); but when all shall be written correctly; ALL, which from the first I have uttered concerning them [shall concur] (Sura 15:9).

whatever the Quran says is the truth and we must abide by what it says but this does not mean that we cannot think.
The Quran itself demands that we ponder and think over what it says

Anyways. The Qu'ran says that "There will be no compulsion in religion." So it's up to you to follow it or not.
Religious zealots, they're available in ALL religion. EVEN ATHEISM. Even though Atheism isn't a religion but there are atheists zealots too.
