How is downtown Phoenix?
I have never been into downtown Phoenix where all the highrises are. The friends I have visited live west of there where you have your typical strip centers and chains like walmart and target pretty much boring and like any city in the southwest. When I have asked about going downtown they just don't seem to keen on that idea. So how is the downtown? Is it an exciting place like San Francisco with lots of stores eating places and street side vendors? Is it real pedestrian friendly?

Nooooo....downtown Phoenix is essentially a commercial center, where all the businesses and government agencies are. It is also where the homeless shelters and YMCA hotel is so not the safest place after dark. You'll get hit up for a handout every 10-feet any time of day. Quite a few restaurants but many are only open for lunch.
The only place I can think of in the downtown area that might be worthwhile to you is the Outdoor Mall at 3rd St & Van Buren. Haven't been there in a while, but there was a nightclub on the top level that was 3 clubs in one...a dance club, a sports club, and a piano bar type club. There are some good events held downtown on the weekends, different festivals. I hear there is a farmers market downtown every other Saturday but never been to confirm.

I don't think it is an exciting place like San Francisco. There are very few stores and eating places there and no street side vendors at all. It has some high-rises there with all the businesses... It is more of a business place than anything... The downtown area is usually quite deserted and empty at night, after people finished work...In the daytime, you see people there but there aren't many people there and it's not crowded like downtown San Francisco where you see people everywhere. It is also not a place where there are many shops, stores, street side vendors and so forth as there are just very very few stores there. It is just a place with some high rises and businesses there... It has the main public library there and also the main bus station where many buses stop at...But, you don't see many people on the streets...

The downtown are in Phoenix is ok but not nearly as exciting as San Francisco. The baseball stadium is down there as is an arena that houses the Suns basketball games and big concerts. Dodge Theater and the Orpheum theater are there too. There are some good restaurants- I recommend Pizza Bianco-if you can get in. The Arizona Center is there- it houses a Fat Tuesdays, Moondoggies and some other night spots for drinking and dancing. That's where most of the retail stores are. It's ok as far as being able to walk places- the downtown area is only about 2 or 3 square miles. Having a numver of different clubs at the AZ center also makes clubhopping easy. But the majority of the dontown area is high rises that house companies.

Phoenix doesn't have much of a downtown. They're working on it (look up "Copper Square" on Google to see the development plans) but really, Phoenix's downtown is mostly for sports games and the financial centers, and people don't go there much after hours. The life of the city, sadly, is in the suburbs. In that way it's a bit like Los Angeles and much less than towns with a thriving downtown like Chicago or San Francisco. It'll improve, I think, with the condos downtown and the development and light rail, but no, it's no San Francisco.

Downtown Phoenix isn't a apartment lofty variety of place. they are attempting to make it, however the only time that's happening is whilst there's a ball interest or stay overall performance. there is numerous shape happening there so that's truly congested perfect now, rather with the easy rail device moving into. If she's working in Goodyear, that's a some distance tension. The plus is that she could be commuting the different way of site visitors. numerous people who stay in Goodyear artwork downtown. Goodyear and Palm valley are truly effective factors why no longer stay there? If she likes the evening existence, she might desire to evaluate Glendale and Peoria. there's some places there, yet she will additionally bounce on the expressway in direction of Tempe and Scottsdale and not be too some distance from artwork.

“pretty much boring and like any city in the southwest” Not sure what you are looking for or where you are from (must be excitement central!!!). Phoenix and in particular Scottsdale have plenty of “fun” things to do. Any cities in the “Southwest” – Phoenix, San Diego, LA are not pedestrian friendly – they are all “car” towns. I have lived in many cities and find Phoenix (where I work) and Scottsdale (where I live) to be absolutely wonderful. If you are young and looking for “an exciting place” try Tempe where ASU is, a great college town with plenty to do – and you can walk if you want to.

Downtown Phoenix is dirty... Probably one of the worst downtown for a top 10 major city...
San Francisco is cool because many top notch people actually live in the city, in phoenix everyone lives in the suburbs and downtown is deserted after work!

I don't think downtown Phoenix has alot for you to do as much as San Franciso, I would think San Franciso would have alot more of diversity as to Phoenix it seems like the majority of people there are Mexican and White. There is a Japenese Garden there, ball park, probably some clubs, Little Mexico, Zoo, Museums, and alot of business stuff. There's not many places to eat, I did find a Philly place to eat, I think that would be a good place to check out. I don't think it's as exciting, some parts there is a lot of business people and other parts it's really crappy and disgusting. I didn't find too many eating places or street side vendors. Pedestrains are usually business people, homeless people, or Mexicans looking for a job. Hope it helps. I find west Phoenix more interesting Litchfield Park, Avondale, Palm Valley.

Boring! Mostly a business district, if you even want to call it that. Not much downtown, but if you want to see the lights - go to Tempe, Mill Ave and along the waterway! Very nice.
