I am interested in climbing Mt. Fuji in Japan in the near future...what would I need to pack with me?

Just the basics, so I can kind of get an idea of what I should buy or pack so I can plan ahead when the time comes.

Mt. Fuji can be climbed in a day as most school children go on a day field trip there. Get a mid-sized back pack where you can pack food, warm clothes as mountain tops are cooler, camera, rain gear, water. Also get sturdy hiking shoes, appropriate socks, map of the mountain trail, and a tourbook would be nice to have.

When I went I had a pack of cigarettes and a walking stick that I bought so that I can get those burned in stamps at all the different stations. You will also need a warm sweater, I climbed Mt. Fuji at night and got to the top in the morning. I bought snacks on the way up and even drank a beer. You should probably follow what the poster above me said. It was a fun experience.
