What's the best way to back up my hdd's considering they are stripped? If I ghost it to a IDE will it be able to ghost the image back properly? Also when I installed my O.S. while stripped is my boot file on Hdd 0 or split between the both.

Update:

I am using an on board sil 3112 controller but not mirrored.

Update 2:

I know how to bacup a hdd,but when u are stripped everything is split between the 2.If i image on to a ide will I have problems when it comes time to image back? For exampleIf I get a corrupt boot file and go to restore it Win has problems gather from two at once.

If you are using hardware RAID the striped volume should backup & restore correctly. If you're using software RAID (like Windows XP's disk spanning option) it's really a crap shoot...

Best way to find out is waste some blank DVD's

If Ghost will make the backup correctly it will most likely restore correctly as well... After all, if Ghost can't read the volume then it's not gonna be able to make a backup now is it...

I'm not positive exactly what you are asking here as far as backups...but if you want Complete backups (this includes systems settings, modifications, update patches, etc) then I'd go with Acronis True Image backup...It makes and exact copy of the harddrive or partition, or files you want to make a backup of, and compresses it to 1/2 or less the original size for storage...Now, if you ever want to restore the image you created it's very easy and it will restore to the time you made the image with all the settings etc included...It can do this even if you computer becomes unbootable! (via Rescue disk)

I make a backup of partition C every week to back all my critical files and Operating System...

Use a backup application to run a backup to another drive. If you're running Windows XP you can use the built-in ntbackup.exe to create and run the backup. As far what's where on your RAID set, it depend on what kind of RAID it is. If you're running a RAID 0 (striped with no parity) your entire logical drive is split up between both devices. If you're running a RAID 1 (mirrored), you have 2 drives with the same info on both.

Most sector based copiers like Ghost don't play nice with hardware RAID. That's why I recommend you use a file system based backup tool.

I just run my main drive(SATA) and I formated my storage drive as an Extended drive, I created all my own folders in ther and save everything to it to protect against data loss.

The most reliable way to back up data is DAT, sure its slower, but its safe and dependable!
