Why does Bush call money for returning Iraq vets and disaster relief, pork?

But has no problem giving billions to defense contractors to build a police training facility in Iraq that was condemned as unsafe shortly after completed.

Pork is fine if it is going to Iraqis and defense contractors, but not to Americans in need?

To him it IS pork. His main interest is corporations and lobby groups. Anything that benefits the people who actually pay taxes is "socialism."

Because there are other things in that appropriations bill that have absolutely nothing to do with Iraq, the vets, and disaster relief. Politicians attach other unpopular spending items (say, money for a project in their home district) to bills like the Iraq funding bill in order that their project is funded when the bill is passed. If their project had a bill of its own, it would never pass. Bush wants these non-related spending items removed from the bill, and is another reason that there has been a push to allow the President to have a "line-item veto" to veto only specific portions of a spending bill.

Because like after Hurricane Katrina he thought Fema was doing a heck of a job.Because he and only he "understands and Appreciates"our soldiers sacrifices.Because his buddies need to build their nest egg for retirement.Because he's God and is going heal all of our vets himself when they come home.

Because the Democrats did it and not him. If you want to find other examples of "pork", type "Republican Congressional Pork" into yahoo, and you will get about 300,000 hits. How soon either side forgets that the other side does the same things.

  • I believe GWB is anti-American, Pro-Saudi, pro money, and as such, any money that is taken from Halliburton -- who used loopholes to do business with Iran and who is moving their headquarters to DuBai -- he is against. I wouldn't doubt that once Bush is no longer President, he will become a Principal in one of Halliburton's subsidiaries or trust groups or maybe he'll become the U.S. Liaison or the U.S./Arab leader. Maybe he'll even go to DuBai to live. It certainly seems plausible given his actions and lack of actions against illegal immigrants, his failure to enforce the immigration laws, his failure to be as adamant in his protection of American Citizens as he is in protecting illegal immigrants and giving them pathways to citizenship and other forms of Amnesty. He has made promises to Mexico and other countries that there would be amnesty (only he doesn't call it amnesty-he calls it a guest worker program) and has thereby cemented my opinion that he is Anti-American and is a traitor.

pork refers to padding a bill to get passed. they added quite a few agricultural and arts funding to the bill to get it passed. so the bill maybe for 10 million but only 5 million goes to the vets.

No, just the 20 million for peanut warehouses.

Because it's money that his buddies won't be able to line their wallets with.
