Turkey is a secular republic with a very clear separation between church and state. They also have no issue with Jews and recognized Israel as a state long ago.
Lebanon is a democracy.
Jordan & Morocco are consitutional monarchies that have been liberalizing economically and politically over the past decade.
Iran is a democracy (yes whether you believe it or not), although a religious oligarchy controls who runs.
Israel is a partial democracy, because they basically guarantee lower number of non-Jews in the Knesset although Arab Christians / Muslims comprise about 25% of the population in the pre-67 borders.
Egypt, Syria, Alegeria, Tunisia, Yemen are all 'people's republics' with 'elections' that basically guarantee single party hegemony. Then there are the GCC oil producing monarchies. Ranging from Saudi with no democracy whatsoever to elected parliaments in Kuwait and Bahrain and something in between in Qatar and UAE.
Actually in a lot of the Mid East countries women play significant roles. For example, Morocco has more women employed in the government then there are in America, if my memory is correct. Likely the same in Egypt and Turkey. Turkey and Pakistan have both had female Prime Ministers that ran the countries and Queen Rania of Jordan is extremely publicly active. So it depends on whch country you focus on and how you look at it. If you compare to 50 years ago, then women hae come a very long way in the mid east and have made more gains in 50 years than women in America made over 120 years. Keep things in perspective.

Israel is only a Democracy if you are a Jew
If you are a Christian, born in Bethlehem, under the barrel of the gun of an Israeli Tank, can you vote
