How do i check and erase archives?

archives are encrypted and stored as .dat files on the computer from which the conversation originated at...

C:\ Program Files\ Yahoo!\ Messenger\ Profiles \yahoo ID \ Archive\ Messages

(remove the spaces from the path above :)

if archiving was enabled prior to the conversation/s...

Messenger > Preferences

select the category Archive (left hand side)

make sure Yes, save all my message had been selected

if its not enabled you wont be able to get prior conversations, but you can enable it for future sessions, simply select

"Yes, save all my messages"

hit Apply, hit OK

if it was enabled, you can open all the archives within yahoo messenger itself (when you are signed in)...

via Contacts > Message archive

or

right click a username in your friends list and select Message Archive

to view them offline or outside of yahoo messenger you will need an archive decoder / viewer like http://www.wackyb.co.nz/option,com_remository/Item...

to disable and clear archiving of your messages via yahoo messenger...

Messenger > Preferences

select the category Archive (left hand side)

make sure "No, do not save any of my messages" is selected

then click on "Clear Archive Now"

hit Apply, hit OK

if you are at all concerned about any remaining archives head to your archive directory

C:\ Program Files\ Yahoo!\ Messenger\ Profiles \ your yahoo ID \ Archive\ Messages

(remove the spaces from the path above :)

and manually delete any .dat files that may remain or the entire Yahoo! ID profile directory
