I'm not one for making a scene at a restaurant, but it'd really depend on the relationship, and how the girl would react. If you are going to get married, it's assumed I'd know her well enough to know how she would like to remember the moment.

I am a female, but i sure know how i would like to be proposed to.

I dont care about the setting, just as long as its private, no public announcements, and then for him to ask me if I would make him the happiest man alive and do him the honour of becomming his wife.

But hey, it's hurry-up and wait for me. So no luck yet!

On the beach at sunset. Ring tucked in a little pocket in my bathing suit. I'd make a little speech about how perfect the sunset is, how beautiful the ocean is, and then I'd say but the ocean cannot compare to her beauty and the sunset is cracked and broken compared to the ultimate perfection of her smile and the sound of her voice. I'd tell her I can smell her, like a flower and my heart skips a beat when she enters the room. I'd tell her the only thing that would make me happier than the moment we were sharing together would be for her to just say the word "yes." When she looks quizzically at me, not knowing what I'm getting at... I'd take out the ring and show it to her.

I would ask her. I would just say, "please say yes" and descend to one knee.

in some romantic outdoor setting, like on the seacoast or near a pretty lake or something. it would need to be very private. i'd just kneel down, tell her how i feel about her, and ask.
