Why can't I rate answers?

The thumbs up and thumbs down tool is only available once you reach level 2.

To get to level 2 you need to have 250 points, so you are well on your way!

Keep answering questions and voting for unresovled answers, and you'll be there in no time!

You can access the scoring information page at any time by clicking on your points number (In blue, below your name on the left hand side).

You can still use the flag icon next to an answer to report an offensive answer or one that breaks the community guidelines. The community guidelines can be found here:

The reason Yahoo! give for the rating tool to only be available to users at level 2 or above is:

"Ratings are a powerful way for you to voice your opinion on the content of Answers, and determine the direction of the product. By waiting until you reach Level 2 to exercise this privilege, we discourage abuse of the privilege."

To rate answers, you must be a Level 2 user or higher. Since you are currently at Level 1, this feature is not yet available to you.

Get 250 pts. and you'll be on level 2. Then you can "rate" answers with "thumbs up" and "thumbs down."

Answer a question and get 2 pts. Ask a question and lose 5. Choose the "best answer" to your question and get 3 of those 5 back.

Be chosen as "best answer" and get 10 pts. plus 1 bonus pt. for each "thumbs up" your answer received.

Vote for "best answer" on unresolved questions where the asker was too lazy to choose "best answer" and you get 1 pt. per question. You also get 1 pt. every day for just logging in. It’s as easy as that!

Good luck, you'll be on level 2 in no time and then aim for level 3 (1,000 to 2,499 pts.)

you have to raise yourself to at least level 2 (or earn 250 points) to rate an answer given by others you can earn points by answering open questions and vote undecided questions as much as you can ( within a participation limit of it per day).
