I'm in Blacksburg ... it is said that 31 are dead and the gun man. There are 29 (will up-date) confirmed in the hospitals in the area . Tech is still on lock down though it is secure, but the campus is going to being evacuated
( this will be over 50 thousand ppl )
To those in the area, please clear the roads and give way to those who need them today.
All area schools have been closed & families are
being asked to stay indoors. The event now is the deadliest campus shooting in the U.S history.
( It was a young Asian male who was heavily armed and was wearing a vest .. No one is sure why, rumor that he was looking for his GF & she may be one of the ppl in the death toll)
My prayers, tears, & heart felt condolences to the families, students & our home-town.
Source(s): The comment about the capital charges is wrong. They must be confused with the shootings earlier this year ( yes, sad to say it is our 2nd one) The first one was an escaped convict that shot 2 police officers. CNN for whatever reason is saying it was one officer it wasn't, it was two! and a 3rd one ( who is my nephew ) was beaten severly. - cbrown122Lv 51 decade ago
Yeah, I just heard and immediately turned on FNC. This stuff is becoming WAY too common place and they are getting more and more deadly as well. Twenty-two dead and twenty-one injured means this will easily be one of the most deadly shootings in U.S. history. Such a tragedy that probably could have been prevented. My heart goes out to the family of the ones that were lost.
They are saying witnesses are telling them the guy was lining people up and shooting them execution style....how do you just sit there and let this happen?
I know this figure is a little old but think of how many kids are carrying weapons to school with this figure being TEN YEARS OLD!!!
"The U.S. Department of Education reports that during 1997, nearly 6,300 students were expelled from American schools for carrying firearms. Fifty-eight percent of the expulsions were for handguns and 17% for shotguns"
The problem is nationwide as well check out the link below (if you look at any link I provided) that shows a map of the U.S. along with school shooting sites and this is only since 1996. There were many between 1990 and 1996 as well that are not listed.
A press release about a study conducted to find out the motives for such shootings was conducted in 2005 and the study and the coming report is at
http://www.ed.gov/PressReleases/05-2002/05152002a....
Here is a list of the key findings:
• More than half of the attackers had revenge as a motive and almost three-quarters were known to hold a grievance prior to the attack.
• Most attackers had previously used guns and had access to them. Two-thirds got the guns used in attacks from their own home or that of a relative.
• Despite prompt law enforcement response, most shooting incidents were resolved before law enforcement authorities arrived on the scene. Other students or faculty stepped in, or the student stopped shooting or committed suicide.
• In almost half the cases, the attacker was influenced or encouraged by others. In most cases, the attacker acted alone.
• There is no accurate or useful "profile" of those who engaged in school-based attacks. Student attackers come from various ethnic and racial backgrounds; a range of family situations; and have varying academic performance. Some were socially isolated, some popular; some had behavior problems, some had none that were evident; and few had any diagnosed mental disorder.

i saw that it was 21 dead and at least 21 injured. I heard a few people jumped out of their dorm windows while on lockdown and one guy broke his ankle doing that and a girl was just lying there on the ground afterwards. possibly could've broken her neck it made it seem like. that's crazy

I just heard about it. I don't think the shooter is dead (I heard he was shot) because the artical I read said he faces capital charges.
Source(s): Edit: Ok, he is dead. The last artical I read before I posted my answer had listed he'd be brought up on charges, but not that he was dead.
