Will kobe beat Michael Jordans record for most 50 point games?
so for those that don't know here is the scenario
wilt chamberlin is in another league with 130 something 50 point games
michael jordan is second with 31
kobe bryant is third with 21
kobe bryant only had 11 coming into this season and I think he will defenitely beat michael jordans record, but I just decided to let all the kobe haters give me they're argument, but I guess the real question is how many 50 point games will he get?? I think he'll retire with 50 something 50 point games, maybe even 60
kobe is 28 years old for the person who wanted to know his age
haha i liked how you compared kobe to george bush.

Yes I think he'll break the record. However, he will never avg 2 steals again, and never avg a block per game again. And he has never had a 2 to 1 Ast to TO ratio in his entire career, so he won't do that either. He'll never match Jordan in FG%, Rebs, Asts, Stls, Blks, or Ast to TO Ratio.
Alpha, first of all why do you keep reffering to Scottie Pippen? Jordan played w/o Scottie Pippen in his early 20's, and when he was 39 and 40 yrs old. Dude, give it up.
Also, you claimed that Jordan didn't make players better.. Well who is kobe making better?????? Kobe's making them worse and they'll feel that in the free agent market. In other words, guys are actually gonna' lose money b/c of Kobe. Their stock is down my friend.
How about Bill freakin Wedington, or Luke Longley??? Or how about Bill Cartwright???? These guys were household names until they stopped playing with Jordan.. hmmmmm. Many analysts considered Luke Longley as a solid big body at 7'2. Uh, how solid was he after leaving the Bulls?????
And you were wrong about B.J. Armstrong with Scottie Pippen. The only reason that his stats went up with Pippen is b/c he played more minutes (his minutes were time 1/2 that before Jordan left), and that's the ONLY reason. His points were up, but only b/c he played MANY MORE minutes in Jordan's absence. His FG% was lower without Jordan. You need to break down your statistics more before you make a claim that B.J. Armstrong was better without Jordan. It's not true. He was at his best with Jordan. Here was his FG% in his first 4 yrs with Jordan - .485, .481, .481, .499. Here was his 2 yrs with Pippen - .476, .468. His best season with Pippen wasn't even better than his worst season with Jordan in FG%. Nearly ALL of his stats per minute were better with M.J., and the ONLY reason that he played more mins w/ Pippen is because Jordan (a guard) wasn't there and the role had to be filled.
Another thing - You're telling me that when Jordan came into the league he had as good of a player as Lamar Odom?????? If so, please tell me who he had that was as talented as Lamar Odom. Odom is the only Laker to record a triple double this season by the way.
Alpha, all that you ever talk about is Scottie Pippen and scoring. You never mention efficient scoring, and that Kobe has never even had a 47% season in FG%. Jordan is by far a more efficient scorer, and his scoring actually won games. You never mention Steals per game, Assists per game, Blocks per game, and Assist to TO Ratio. Again, you mention Scottie Pippen of all ppl, and scoring. Dude, don't get too detailed on us - ok?
You never mention that Kobe's record as a starter since Shaq left town is 111-111 - WOW, AMAZING!!!!! Jordan made players around him better. Kobe Bryant doesn't.
Cont'd
Alpha, about Caron Butler. He has become better without Kobe. You're giving Kobe credit for what he has done without him????? His FG%, FT%, points, rebs, asts, and steals are all up. Dude, your categorical organization (or lack there of) is not making any sense. You're giving credit for players that go on to do things without Kobe. You're now arguing your own points.
If you think that the best team always wins in college BB then you're sadly mistaken. You obviously don't understand single elimination play. The best team doesn't always win. All it takes is for one team to get hot, and you're done. The NBA realizes this and creates a thing they call a "7 game series."
All that you ever mention is scoring. How many NBA titles did B.J. win without Michael Jordan? Zero How many with Pippen? zero. And when your mins add up to MORE THAN time 1/2 your scoring BETTER go up! Dude, that's taking your total mins and then adding half of that to them. You think that his production went up per min???? Any BB analyst would agree that per min. BJ Armstrong was more effective when Jordan was there. However, Mr. Alpha disagress. It's too bad that they don't listen to you, huh?
Dude, I have forgotten more about BB than you'll ever know. Plus, you shouldn't cuss in these posts. It only shows your defensive attitude, and makes me look right. Well since I am right, of course I'm going to look right. When Kobe gets a 60% winning percentage you might have a case to argue. Otherwise he's a 6'6 version of K.G. - only K.G. puts up better numbers, and K.G. has LED his team to the Conf finals. Kobe at 28 going on 29 is still looking for a 50 win season, and a playoff series victory. As long as a team is built around Kobe, there is absolutely no way that they'll win a title. Sorry dude, in case he becomes a #2 again, his title days are done. And if you wanna put money on that, I'll be happy to.
Also, about Pippen going to play with the Trail Blazers. The Trail Blazers at that time as a team were the most talented team in the NBA. How did that team not win a title??????? And Scottie also played with Rasheed Wallace who yes, was a #1 option on an NBA championship team. Sheed has played on 3 Detroit teams to make it to the conf finals, and an NBA champion, all as a #1 option. Then Pippen went to play with Olojuwon who was EASILY a #1 option on 2 NBA championship teams. So if Pippen is so good, why couldn't he get those guys a ring???? Alpha, you give Scottie Pippen more props than any 5 ppl I know, or have ever encountered, put together.
And about Caron Butler. He has become better without Kobe. You're giving Kobe credit for what he has done without him??? His FG%, points, rebs, asts, and steals are all up. Dude, your categorical organization (or lack there of) is not making any sense. You're now giving credit for players that go on to do things without Kobe. You're now arguing your own points.
Final question. Alpha what are you going to do when Kobe doesn't win a playoff series next yr? I'm sure you'll make up some excuse and bring Scottie Freakin' Pippen back into it in some form or fashion. Later.

As you mentioned, the player that truly holds the record for most 50+ point games in his career is Wilt Chamberlain. Counting only regular season games, Chamberlain recorded 118 career 50+ point games. Chamberlain actually had 45 of those games during one season (1961-62 with Philadelphia). No other player's entire career has even come close to Chamberlain's one season, so I think that record is pretty safe.
So, technically it really isn't Michael Jordan's record. But I do think that Kobe will pass up MJ on that list . . . and if Kobe's scoring trend continues, he will most likely pass MJ next season. I figure that Kobe will be at the peak of his skills for another 3-4 years, and he could probably play for another 10 years total. If over the next 4 years he scores 50+ points in 10 games per year, and then scores 50+ points in another 10 games for the remainder of his career, Kobe would wind up with 71 career 50+ point games.
However, that estimate is based on the assumption that Kobe does not change the style of his game. We all know that he is one of the best scorers in the history of the NBA, and he is only 28. However, he is not yet a great leader of his team. Since Shaq was traded to the Miami Heat, Kobe Bryant has led the Lakers to:
2004-2005..........Missed the playoffs
2005-2006..........1st round of the playoffs
2006-2007..........Probably only the 1st round of the playoffs
If he matures a little bit and has a more faith in his teammates, he may score a little bit less, but the team will win much more. Heck, all Kobe has to do is look back to last year's playoff series against the Suns. The reason why the Lakers pushed that series to 7 games was because Kobe shared the ball. The Lakers were a much more balanced, much more dangerous team when Kobe got his teammates involved. He has the ability to make the Lakers much better, but it seems like he doesn't yet have the maturity or patience. When he develops that maturity on a consistent basis, he won't be scoring as many of those 50+ point games, but his team will be a perrenial contender.
If he does develop that maturity within the next year or two, he probably only winds up with about 50 career 50+ point games, but another couple of championships as well.

Sorry but MJ won 6 rings and NEVER LOST in the Finals, plus he did it without a big man in the middle. He would never let his team get blown out at home or lose a game after having a 20 point lead at home. MJ would shut down his opponent and score 40 on the other end. The Pistons invented the Jordan Rules for him. And he still averaged 28 a game against them. Here my favorite reason why Jordan is way better than Kobe: MJ would never lose a 3-1 lead in the playoffs or stop shooting the ball just to prove a point, especially if it was a crucial game 7 on the road? I think Kobe scored 7 points and shot the ball 4 times. MJ could impose his will against anyone and dominate even if it seemed like the game was over. He never, ever gave up on his team.

From a Kobe-Disliker:
Here's the deal. Yes, Kobe may be a better scorer than Jordan. Possibly, but what Kobe will NEVER be is a better basketball player than Jordan. Jordan, like Steve Nash does not only elevate his own game but elevates the game of those around him, allowing his TEAM (yes, basketball is a TEAM sport) to win ball games. When they hand out the MVP award they need to look at which person is not only a great basketball player, but allows their team to win basketball games. All Kobe does night in and night out is get the ball and shoot the ball. He acts like he is God's gift to basketball and yet the man does not win ball games. The rest of the Lakers team is quite a talented bunch and Kobe is ANYTHING but the glue that holds them all together instead he says "gimme the rock" and puts no faith in his teammates to get the job done (see his comment to Phil Jackson the other night where he told Phil that he didn't want to come out of the ball game for fear they'd be down by ten before he came back in). Sorry I understand that Kobe scores a lot of points but that's not all it takes to win ball games (as this season has more than proved true for the Lakers). And by the way, what's with him punching people in the face?

I think Kobe will beat Jordan's 31, but just like Jordan I think Kobe will slow down with the 50 point games. Jordan later in his career didn't have the 50 point games like he did early, this wasn't because he couldn't do it anymore it was more like the flow of the game came to him better. If Kobe wants to be a winner, he will learn that same lesson. Kobe is my favorite player and I would rather see him with more rings than have him keep racking up 50 point games with no help.

The answer depends on if Kobe will have a team to work with in the next few years. Give him some help and his scoring avg. will go down because other people are scoring. What if they get K.G.? Or if the Lakers struggle again Kobe will have shoot 40-50 times a game. I think he'll come close but he won't surpass MJ. Unless that's what he feels he has to do instead of winning rings.
- The Big ShotLv 61 decade ago
He'll probably beat Jordan's record. But who cares. He'll never win 3 more rings. In fact, he'll never win another ring.
The games different. Jordan played when there were hand checking rules and the Knicks and Piston played rough slow down basketball. Scoring 50 was a real challenge then.
Scoring is up across the league since the NBA instituted the no handchecking policy. The game is geared toward offense now in the same way it was in the early 80s and late 70s. More players are consistently scoring 50 now.

Anyone who thinks Michael Jordan holds the record for 50 point games is clueless to begin with.

yes absolutely...i completely agree with alpha wolf...finally somone who knows his Sh!t.
i think kobe will end up with about 45 but to be honest im hopin for more, since he is my favorite player of all time. yes i know, at times he can be a ball hog, but this season especially, since shaq left to go to miami i have seen kobe pull off some pretty amazing assists. a few of them to turiaf and to walton.
and i also agree with what Alpha wolf said, MJ did NOT make people better. pippen was AMAZING. have any of you seen some of his highlights. i suggest some of you look them up.
I firmly believe that if MJ was on the team Kobe was, he wouldn't even have as well as Kobe has....i remember just last season them having 55 wins..anyone else. and they lost to one of the best teams in the league....and only by game
i thought that was an amazing series...Kobe's game winner made my year

Kobe is not my favorite player,Michael was unique and outstanding;but I think yes,Kobe could make 31,41,51 and even more 50 points games with the poor defence players we have at this moment. Each player near the basket can shoot almost freely because of the faults'cumulation of the defence players. And the players,Kobe included, know that perfectly.

Kobe has about 6 more good years in him, so lets say 11 per season will give him 66 more 50+ games...so i guess 87-90 games then!
how many championships tho....*sigh*
