Well it depends if its a bar i totally agree with the owners and such, but if its a hotel the should as long as you have a credit card/method of payment you should be allowed in because your over 18 and you SHOULD have a ID (drivers license).
If they say no after all this just tell them to go pound sand or something.

Why don't you try a hostel? There are several of them in Manhattan. I wouldn't venture to the Bronx if you've never been to/are unfamiliar with the area. Also, check on craigslist.org under "sublets/temporary." You might be able to find something helpful there too.
