In my opinion, if you ask a yes or no question, a simple yes or no answer should be acceptable and recieve the 2 point standard award.
I most definitely would not give best answer to a cut and dry answer, but not everyone is striving for best answer, nor do they really care to share their views or support their answers...maybe they are here for another reason...just cuz that's not me, doesn't mean it's wrong :)
I choose to give answers with more detail, but not too wordy...ummmm ok, maybe I do type too much sometimes!

Whenever I answer someone's question, I always try to give it my full consideration and respect. I try to put myself in the questioner's shoes and imagine what I would do if I were in their situation. No, I don't think people should get points just by merely saying yes or no. I really work hard to answer every question completely and fully, to the best of my knowledge, and really try to help the person out, no matter what the question is. I personally believe that just a yes or no answer is being kind of lazy, and it kind of irritates me because I really work hard to help the person out with their question.

I don't think yes or no is a best answer reply.
I think a yes with an explanation (short one) is required so that the asker understands the reason behind the 'yes'.
The same with the no answer...it should be backed up with an explanation (short one) also.
P>S> if the question is lame, insulting or sinful no answers is best for those!

good question, have a star! the problem with such a suggestion is where do you stop? if a simple "yes" or "no" doesn't get you points, then do you go on to "i think that answer is stupid, don't give them any points"? who decides? you're proposing a rather slippery slope here. besides, most questions here don't require much more than a simple yes or no type answer. how detailed can you get with "what color are your eyes?" or "should rico be committed?" this isn't AP physics here.

Well, "yes" or "no" is a valid answer to a questions, so I think it's it's fine. I think points should be awarded for that type of answer. While I'm positive that "yes" or "no" answers sometimes given to get the points, it's not really doing harm to anyone, so why not!

I think they should say more. But to be honest there are some really dumb questions that only deserve a yes or no answer and the bonus is in asking them is you get two points for nothing.
So if that is going to happen you also need to stop dumb questions as well.
Which will never happen.

Yes it should, because giving more info helps to know where you're coming from, and on here it helps the person asking the question know how each person feels and gets a better idea of what that person is thinking and feeling.

Sometimes the questions people pose only have a yes or no answer unless you get creative. Sometimes people pose a yes/no question because they want to know if more people on Y!A think yes, or more people think no.

Yes, I think you should give a opinion
or atleast support your answer but
some questions are quite simple
and don't need much support
or facts so I guess it's only fair that
they get points also.
