Chevy-GMC, Nissan-Infiniti, Toyota-Lexus, Honda-Acura, What is the reason for all of this badge engineering?

Why don't they just stop all of the badge engineering, probably cost quite to have different grills, nameplate etc on cars that are for the most part exactly the same. Just save the money and pass the savings onto the consumer. What do you think?

People like to look like they have money. Pay an extra five grand, and you get a luxury name for your car and you get a little more prestige, since it looks like you spent 10K more. You also forgot Ford-Lincoln, VW-Audi, a few other GM brands.

Infinity, is the upbeat name for Nissan, just like Lexus is for Toyota. What I mean when I say upbeat is, they are a higher fancier grade of car. More luxiour. Same genrel running gear, but higher quaility interior. Like buying a better product, but most people don't know they are just paying for comfort and name most of the time.

It costs a lot more to build a completely different car. Most people dont even know that its the same car anyways.
