Wow. It's great you know exactly what you want. The hardest shopping experiences tend to be when you just want "clothes" or something vague.
Try doing a search for this product on sites that sell DVDs like Amazon, Buy.com, Overstock.com, Circuit City.com, Bestbuy.com, JR.com, DVDPlanet, etc. Ebay is a good place if this is a DVD out of print. I did a quick search on Amazon and it appears they sell the first season on DVD for $27.99.
If you find the product in all these places or a lot and you don't have time to compare prices (or you want an easy way to do it) try doing a search for the product with a shopping search engine. These are places that specialize in finding every place that sells your product and listing them with pricing info so you can easily compare side by side. A few of these search engines include Shopping.com, Become.com, and Pricegrabber. You can also try Shop.com which is a site that will give you many options as well but they don't necessarily "compare" the same info that the search engines do.
If you do all that and still can't find the exact thing you want or a better price, then go with your first choice. I just wouldn't buy it without doing a little research first since I'm sure you can find a better price.
As for the "promo number" I agree with the other answers. It is most likely a box to enter in a coupon code or what is known as a "promo code" where you can get a deal like 10% off or Free Shipping. These type of codes can be found online by just doing a search in Yahoo or Google for store name and then coupon. So for instance, for Overstock.com you would do a search for Overstock.com coupons. Sometimes these are given out in emails by the merchant if you have shopped there before or even in receipts to get you to shop again. This box does not need to be filled in to make a purchase. It is optional.

Promo number is usually for previous shopping with the same business. For credits given or some kind of special promotion.
You don't have these; just click 'buy now'. OK?

Try ebay (I by my textbooks for school there for half price) and I would suggest purchasing the desired item on a website that is well known, forget trying to get the best deal because it could be a scam. I would also suggest that you get a card from the bank and put enough money on the card to cover the total cost including taxes as opposed to using your credit card for obvious protection reasons.

promo number means- online coupon or promontional code. most of the time if you look online for the place you are buying from you can find one. just time in the store name with promo code in google and see what happens.

You can buy without the promo number. Sometimes, if you're a regular customer on the site, they will send emails with promotional codes for discounts.
