Our W-2's and 1099 are wrong what can we do?
My husband and I worked for the owners of a mobilehome park as managers. We no longer work for them, but we received our W-2 forms and a 1099 form that had totally wrong amounts. We never received the amount they describe on the 1099 form. How can we correct this?
AND our former employers are hard to deal with and they refused to pay us for extra worked that we did. I have all the documentation to prove it. My husband says to let it go, but I don't want to. We worked our butts off and I feel we should be compensated. They put us in danger when they took a trip to the Orient last June. We had 110 degree weather. We had to work outside and come home to no AC in our mobilehome. We had heat exhaustion and were sick from it. Before they left on their trip, they told us to pitch a tent and do whatever it takes to stay cool until they got home. They were gone for a month. What do you think?

You need to contact the employer and request an amended 1099 and W-2. This is a common "mistake."
Make clear to the employer that you have saved all of your records, according to which is less that the amount in the 1099 and W-2. Tell the employer that they must either pay you the difference or send you an amended 1099 and W-2.
If the employer does not send you amended forms, the IRS has a form in which you can dispute amounts reported. The employer will likely be audited, and the employer knows this. My guess is that amended forms will be mailed to you.
A friend of mine worked as a contractor for a major defense contractor, who also contracted with thousands of other workers. My friend said that his 1099 had been padded by several thousand dollars. So, imagine if this contractor padded each of the other workers by thousands of dollars. That equates out to at least over a million dollars that the contractor is not paying taxes on.

I'd report the inaccuracies on the 1099 and the W-2s.

I think I would go with my first mind and pursue this! You deserve it and it's the law! Your former employer should correct this error and if not. You can report him or her to the I.R.S.

I would go to the IRS and complain - he will be auditied -- make sure to have any proof compensation like check stubs or whatever handy from over the time you were there.
