Preschool/Kindergarten Graduation Ideas?

I work as a Kindergarten teacher and this is my first year doing it. In May we are going to have a graduation for the preschool that I work in. This will be a one night program, and we have to have a graduation for 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds, and kindergarten. We must add a patriotic theme to the program. Does anyone have any ideas for what we might be able to have the children do other than just handing out their diplomas?

I would have them do a musical program and then hand out diplomas. At a preschool I taught at, the kindergarten did a musical montage of popular songs (sang along with a burned mix CD like R Kelly's "The World's Greatest"), and the pre-k sang traditional songs (we sang a rendition of "New York, New York" called "Goodbye Pre-K", "Herman the Worm", and "You are My Sunshine". Then as each child was handed a diploma, they handed their mother a rose. We followed with a luncheon and cake. The kids were proud and the parents were enchanted. A great one to sing along with (kindergarten) is "Tomorrow, Better You, Better Me" by Tevin Campbell/Quincy Jones. As for the patriotic theme- if you live in the U.S., you could have them wear red, white, and blue (tastefully), and sing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" or "You're A Grand Old Flag".

The best thing to give is something that they can use. When I graduated high school, people gave me these sentimental books and they're all packed in a box and I haven't touched them since. The best presents I got were the dishes and cups and a tub to wash them in, or the money I used to buy my first computer, or the tackle box full of school supplies like pencils and staples and post-its that I still use 8 years after graduating.

They had an adorable video on tv where they had each gowned and capped K kid step on a small platform and while being videod, asked them what they wanted to be when they grew up and it was not a pre-thought out question. It makes for a precious memory.
