How contagious is MRSA?
I work at a daycare, my daughter who is 9 also attends the daycare after school. We just found out that there is a girl in the 4 yr. old room who has MRSA. In the past week her older sister who goes to school with my daughter and also attend the daycare after school had something that looked very similar to MRSA, but everyone said that it looked like a spider bite. I didn't think so. I guess I am just wondering if my daughter and the children in the daycare are going to get this and will Lysol or bleach water kill the bacteria on the toys and tables. Also should I do anything with my home like our clothes, or would just washing in regular detergent be okay.

That question is difficult to answer. Is it urinary MRSA? Respiratory MRSA? That makes a difference. Also, physicians will tell you that it is not contagious if it has colonized.
Your best bet is to have your manager confront the infected child's parents, and require a note from the MD prior to a return to the daycare....something like "I have examined .....and find her to be free of communicable disease".
MRSA is Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. It is a matter for concern because a lot of things DON"T kill it. Lysol, or wipes impregnated with bleach, should be adequate...I'd use the bleach wipes with or without the lysol. Antibacterial sprays are of questionable utility.
Your best bet for protecting your self and others is thorough handwashing of the type taught to medical professionals; videos should be available online.

MRSA is contagious and difficult to treat. An infectious disease doctor once told me that even after treatment, colonies can live in the nasopharynx for some time. If you and your daughter have been exposed and she is presenting with symtoms, she needs to see a physician ASAP. MRSA, once a nosocomial or hospital aquired infection has been presenting as community based; in gyms, daycare center, etc. The daycare should take precautions to prevent spread of the bacteria. The local health department should have information on this; actually, it may be a requirement that daycares report when a MRSA case surfaces.

MRSA is highly contageous. It can be contracted by simply by touching a person infected. I would recommend finding another daycare center, because once the children are treated, you still have to worry about whether they have sterilized everything properly. As far as your home, if your daughter hasn't been infected, you dont have to worry. The first sign is generally a spider bite looking sore. This bacteria is highly resistant to conventional treatments and the meds used have extreme side effects. Please remove your children as soon as possible.

It is contagious. Most people say that is starts out looking like a spider bite that grows into an abscess --swollen and redness. I have seen a lot of it during my clinical rotations.
your right, the best way to kill it is by cleaning with Lysol and bleach. Again, washing your cloths will do it as well.
but the most important way is to have EVERYONE in dyaycare continuously wash their hands. that is always the best way to prevent the spread.
Good luck

MRSA is like any other staphylococcus aureus and is as contagious as such. It is spread via contact, respiratory aerosols and even via shedding of skin. However it does colonize the skin of children readily and adults (up to 40% but not necessarily MRSA). If you have a immune system is intact, there is usually no infection. But if there is a breach (such as trauma or immunosuppression), it can present as a nasty infection that is resistant to many antibiotics and is hard to treat.
The best method to prevent transmission is good hygiene and of course cleaning and washing as you mentioned.

MRSA is a staph infection that most often strikes older people in hospitals. Once they leave the infection clears up on its own.
Who told you this child had MRSA?
A spider bite is quite different.
Please be careful about the things you say about a child. It can scare her for life, much more than any spider bite or other infection.
