How long do cherry trees live? I have a large tree about 20 years old I want to get rid of?
It is not easy to cut down. Any suggestions are welcome.

Why get rid of it, Just think of all the insects and birds that that tree would support over the years.
If it is own root stock it could go on another 20 or 30 years, if it is on a dwarfing rootstock then that's is a different subject.
If you don't like the the looks of the tree then why not grow a honeysuckle, clematis and a climbing rose through its branches.

there are diffrent types of cherry trees some can live to 100 yrs old,you can cut them down to size without destroying them

it depends on what type of cherry it is they are prone to web worms but to giveyou an estimate on life span 80-120 years. you can do a drop crotch prune which reduces the height of the tree but if you might want to hire a professional tree climber to do that.
