What does the 1.5 or 1.8 or 2.0 mean for a car? Is it litres of gas? Where are these litres?
For example an Acura has on the back 1.8 EL
what does it mean
And some cars even have 5.0.... I have seen on a Mustang...
I don't get it...

yes its liters but not liters of gas.what it means if you filled all your cylinders with liquid a 5.0 would take 5.0 liters to fill and so on.its a way to measure engine size it used to be cubic inches but now it metric.

This is the liters 'displacement' for the engine. It tell you the total volume displaced by the pistons as they move up and down in the cylinder. For instance, if you have a piston 10cm in diameter that moves up and down a total distance of 10cm each stroke, the displacement for that cylinder would be: (by the formula {pie-R-squared x height}) would be 785 cubic centimeters (cc's). Multiply this by the number of cylinders (say 8) and you have a 6,280cc V8 (usually you might see it rounded to 6.3L; or 6.3 liters).
In a 5.0L Ford engine (also 302 cubic inches) each cylinder displaces about 625cc.
Of course, bigger engines usually make more power. So "bragging rights" will usually go to the 8.0 Liter V10 in the Viper over the 5.0 Mustang. ;-D

that is the size of the engine. instead of stating that the engine size is a 1500 or 1800 or 2000 cc engine. simply put would be 1.5l or 1.8l or 2.0l and so on.

this refers to the litres of the motor engine size the smaller the number the smaller the engine. how many litres of oil you will need to fill it.
