Do you think that the constant coverage of negative news on tv causes.....?

people to be depressed and some to live negative lives? Do you think that it is a way to cause people to live in fear?

Most definitely. I myself have been depressed over the Shooting that happened at VT. I don't live in fear though, but there have been times when I have heard something constantly on the news that just really scarred me and I was watching my back a lot.

Then I realized something. They may report something that happened, and maybe it happened only once, but because a big deal was made out of it, everyone got scarred. There are thousands of accidents that happen everyday on the street, and plane crashes don't happen near that often, but because it is reported on the news and a big deal is made out of it, people are more afraid to fly than they are to get in a very dangerous car.

In the united states, the news channels defnititely pump fear into our daily lives. It's not the only reason the society of the usa is fearful, but it's one of them. Negative news, as well as positive news, should be reported, but not in such a bad fashion as what is.

Definitely, I do too. This latest shock (you know the one) has been on satellite news all day and night since it happened. I have to have the television on to go to sleep, and the first night that they were playing the videos that came in the mail was on my TV all night. No bad dreams------yet!! The news is depressing and sometimes I get sick of the newscasters (like Bill O'Reilly) who ham it up. Also (hey, you asked me)

that Anna Nicole thing wore me out but I just HAD to hang in there. I know this is feeding my mind for future nightmares, but "we must all keep abreast of what's going on in the world"...........ad infinitum. 2 cents please.

Yes in deed and lets not forget the Jerry Springer culture and now we have to add all these fake reality shows, drama queen talk shows and not to forget all these new neaderthal fighting shows and wrestling.

I gave up on all that several years back.

Yes to all of the above. That is why I rarely watch the news.

    Yes, I agree with you.

Why watch the negative stuff on t.v., when you can chat with a positive person such as me?

I've read that in order to be happy AND healthy, you gotta stop watching the news.

Yes I do. I have to back away from CNN and watch something silly to recover.
