What is considered the standard restaurant parking valet tip?

My sister just called me asking what do you tip a parking valet at a restaurant. I told her that personally I always give a dollar for each hour I spend in a restaurant. Most of my restaurant visits clock in at about 2 or 3 hours. So my usual tip is that $2 or $3. What do the rest of you consider to be a good tip? I know some people take into consideration if the car is a really nice car. For the sake of the question let's make it a pretty regular car, like a honda civic or a toyota corolla.

Update:

I like to tip. Some of you are making me feel cheap. I thought $2-3 was pretty standard. Interesting.

According to etiquette experts, $2 is acceptable for a valet tip for most $12-$20/plate dining restaurants.

I personally tips $3 most every time unless it's a nicer restaurant (5-star steakhouse like III Forks, or Bern's).

$5 is a bit hefty, unless you are able to afford it, or the guy was especially friendly (remembered your name, etc).

Just make sure you DO tip - valet's depend on tips.

Valet Parking -- $1-$2 to the attendant retreiving your car. Tipping when they park the car is optional.

I like your caculation-method. This way, the establishment and the valet service should not feel cheated at all. If you are stopped and enquired about this amount, simply explain this formula.
