How much is an Ivory statue worth?

I have an ivory statue of a woman, and I want to get an estimate on how much this type of statue would get me if I were to sell it.

    Hey Mat Player,

Here is a website where you can get an appraisal for an Ivory statue. As indicated by others, Ivory trade is banned. I hope an elephant was not recently killed for your statue.

  • Hello,

The value of any object depends on its availability and the demand for it. The best way to get an accurate estimate of value would be to take the piece to a certified art or antiques appraiser and pay for an estimate. That person can also tell you the history (age, place of origin, etc.) of the piece, make sure the material is actually ivory (as opposed to bone, horn, or synthetic "vegetable ivory"), and its estimated value for retail and/or insurance purposes.

If it is just an ordinary ivory statue, it isn't worth much. However, if there is something historical about the statue then it could be worth something.

Nothing if it is not an antique. Ivory is Illegal to buy and sell in the US. You have to prove it's from before the law was passed for a dealer to buy it.
