How is a red moon said to affect people?
I know someone who thinks they are affected by the red moon. They say they are taken over by the spirit of a woof that lives inside of them (a Native American thing). I want to be able to help them so I needed to be more knowlageable about it.
I want to help him get rid of this obsession

I can tell you that my emotions are affected by the red moon. It is what my grandmother called "blood on the moon." It is an omen that means certain horrible death for someone close to me and that frightens me. It has never been wrong. By the way, I have seen this phenomenon only three times in my 47 years, so I am curious as to how often your friend is affected by this. Please don't let something that happens 'once in a blue moon' send you running for a cure-all. It is unlikely that your friend is really talking about a red moon. Could they be talking about the appearance of the moon at sunset?

Is the old adage “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning” true, or is it just an old wives’ tale?
Within limits, there is truth in this saying.
Have you ever heard anyone use the proverb above?
Shakespeare did. He said something similar in his play, Venus and Adonis. “Like a red morn that ever yet betokened, Wreck to the seaman, tempest to the field, Sorrow to the shepherds, woe unto the birds, Gusts and foul flaws to herdmen and to herds.”
In the Bible, (Matthew XVI: 2-3,) Jesus said, “When in evening, ye say, it will be fair weather: For the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today; for the sky is red and lowering.”
Weather lore has been around since people needed to predict the weather and plan their activities. Sailors and farmers relied on it to navigate ships and plant crops.
Red sky at night, sailors delight.
When we see a red sky at night, this means that the setting sun is sending its light through a high concentration of dust particles. This usually indicates high pressure and stable air coming in from the west. Basically good weather will follow.
Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning.
A red sunrise reflects the dust particles of a system that has just passed from the west. This indicates that a storm system may be moving to the east. If the morning sky is a deep fiery red, it means a high water content in the atmosphere. So, rain is on its way

MURDER TIDES
At the University of Miami, psychologist Arnold Lieber and his colleagues decided to test the old belief of full-moon “lunacy” which most scientists had written off as an old wives’ tale. The researchers collected data on homicide in Dade County (Miami) over a period of 15 years — 1,887 murders, to be exact. When they matched the incidence of homicide with the phases of the moon, they found, much to their surprise, that the two rose and fell together, almost infallibly, for the entire 15 years! As the full or the new moon approached, the murder rate rose sharply; it distinctly declined during the first and last quarters of the moon.
To find out whether this was just a statistical fluke, the researchers repeated the experiment using murder data from Cuyahoga County in Ohio (Cleveland). Again, the statistics showed that more murders do indeed occur at the full and new moons.
So it could be true???

First off, I'm offended by your cultural insensitivities.
I don't know anything about the red moon in particular, but the moon does give off different energy at different phases, causing changes in all sorts of life. Magic is one such way to harness this power, of which Native Americans are aware.

Never heard anything like that before. That's sort of a spin-off of the affect a full moon that it makes a person more spontaneous or in layman's terms "crazy". There maybe more legends regarding the moon. Try google-ing or searching on yahoo and type in "full moon legends" or something of that nature. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

In Greek fable its an evil sign that brings misfortune, since the red moon was believed to be caused by witches who dragged the moon-goddess down from the sky using black magic and bloodied her with the stab of knives!

well the moon is said to drive people insane. In fact, the old name for the Moon was Lunar. And an insane person was often called a "LUNAtic". It comes from the Moon's old name.
