We have a large goat tied to a goat house. He was always kept this way, we're his third owners. He's very comfortable with the way he's kept and has never chewed through the leash or anything like that. However, he has broken off it twice, but he just comes straight to the door when he does. Personally, if I had raised him he would have been let loose in a small fenced area. But, even then, goats will sometimes choose to eat at fencing. It's all personal preference, but leasing a goat, as long as he has food, water, and shelter isn't cruel at all.

Well, the trees are not good because he can get wrapped around them. I used to have a billy goat. I would put him on a long chain and put him out in different parts of the yard each week. He had water and a big house to get into and I would give him grain everyday with supplements. I also had a pot belly pig that thought William (the goat) was the most handsome thing ever and she would hang out with him during the day to keep him company. So, yes, I think it is okay to leave your goat out all day on a chain as long as you have made sure there is nothing he can get tied around and he does have time off of the chain, like a large enclosure or leashed walks.

No, Goats can be very stupid. It could get all tangled up and kill it self. If the water is in something it can knock over it could spell the water and dehydrate. They like to jump on things and don't usually do very well on leashes for a long time. We raise goats and they are good pets but can get into a lot of trouble. I have never had one eat their leash though.

it is fine, but there is a huge safety concern- You do need to worry about him accidently choking himself, or getting tangled up and breaking a leg. They are not as smart as dogs and leashes.
Some may try to chew through it, though every goat I have ever had/met were actually extremely picky eaters.
If it were me, I would make a pen, but I do not want to risk accidental broken legs/strangulation, etc.

Just fence in your yard or get a pen. Goats will buck at the leash and will get off.

As the person above me mentioned, the idea is fine, except when you realize that goats love to chew, and will probably end up chewing through the leash. They need plenty of room to run. Please make a nice enclosure for this goat!

I would try just putting him a well made pen cause he willprobably eat that leash right off of him!
