How much does it cost to buy/install tile/hardwood floor?
I have about 1500 sq ft that I want to buy ceramic tile and hardwood floor to replace all the carpet. How much should I expect to spend per sq ft on materials and labor?

tile ill cost you anywhere from 1.50 to 5.00 a sq ft just to have it installed..
Hardwood will cost you anywhere from 1.50 to 4.00 a sq ft just to have it installed..
you will have to look at local prices on hardwood and tile, pricing is different everywhere.. but for labor dont let it be anymore than those prices, and you can talk them down on labor.. a little hint (tell them you bought 50 acres somewhere, and you are going to build houses there, so you are looking for a company that can do good floors, and ask if they will do the floor .50 cents cheaper per sq ft. they usually will do it)

i assume there will be about 1200 ft2 of hardwood and 300 ft2 for the house. ill start with material because thats what i know for sure. normal tile i.e ceramic or porcelain will start around $1.50 and run up to around $3.00 a square foot. say your doing an entry way in all the same tile so you go with a good porcelain which goes for $2.50 ft2. tile itself is 300 ft2 x $2.50 = $750. add on sales would be the (a.) mortar: runs about $15/per 80-100 ft2 so youll need 4 bags of that = $60. (b.) grout: runs about $10/ 80-100 ft2, so 4 bags = $40. (c.) sealer for the grout $10, spacers $10 and that should be all the basics. im sure someone else will know the costs of labor but im not real sure i think its around $1.50 a ft2.
so you have 1200 ft2 left to do the hardwood. a nice hickory or oak which are pretty popular goes for about $4.00 a square foot. 1200 x $4.00 = $4,800. hopefully your subfloor is fine and you wont have to do much, your subfloor should be no less than an inch and a quarter under the three quarter inch hardwood floor. add on sales would be the rosin paper to put under the floor which is the cheaper way to go, thats about $5.00/per 500 ft2. you could also put a pad that is for laminate flooring called SOUND SOLUTION which is make from 100% memory foam. this is the best, $50.00/ 100ft2. also you can use a felt paper or felt roofing paper. trim for the floor where it meets other rooms are about $20 a piece and that should be it. all of the prices i have listed are MENARDS prices that i see everyday.

depends on where you go and what you want. if you buy the home depot brands then you're gettin cheap and easy installation. good part is that you can install it on your own with no more than a table saw, or any circular saw will work for that matter just to get a clean cut for sizes and corners. but to get the real deal, and true hard wood flooring you got to go to a cabinet company or other that specializes in flooring, but then you are looking at much higher prices.
i dont know finite numbers but that gives you an idea of your choices

Call Home Depot and then go there and pick out some tile. They can give you the cost figures. This is way to general a question for someone to give you a reliable answer.

My suggestion would be meet an experienced flooring contractor, because they can give estimated round figure as it depend on the area of the floor..........

Depends on the type of hardwood you prefer (for example, maple vs. oak), the length of the planks, the width of the planks, thickness of each plank (I think thicker is better)
Source(s): Recently had hardwood installed. I think that some woods probably ranged from $4-7 / sq ft. Bought ours from a specialized hardwood store in Missisauga. Probably the ones in Home Depot is cheaper but I think that they have a smaller selection. - Anonymous7 years ago
