do the people quoted in this article, really believe an apology would help?
Good reply JA'aj- the apology is not the point, but what is. my wother in law is from Boston, should she write a letter of apology to the descendants of the owners of British East India Company?
the reason for this legal intervention to apologize is to bring us one step closer to Reparations(translation-free money) for the descendants of the slaves.
i guess i am bothered that the small groups of african americans who decided they need reparations have forgotten what country we are in. a country where any man can grow up below poverty level and with work and integrity, graduate from college, become a respected doctor, etc. with enough well earned money to build a good home and give back to his community.or he could choose to stay the same, there is no lack of opportunity here. I feel like these groups do the rest of the african americans an injustice by making national news and stirring up negative emotions which could lead to sweeping generalizations of all african americans.
British East India Company....sorry didnt clarify that i was referring to the boston tea party. and i meant my mother in law, not my wother in law

I don't know that that's the point, but it couldn't hurt.. That's the thing about apologies that some people don't seem to get: If an apology is owed, Apologize! The issue is not whether it will "help", or whether or not it will be accepted, or anything except: Is an apology owed? If yes, then make the apology! God knows, this one is owed! (Do you love the bozo who said" what bothers me, is I didn't do anything." Clearly. Not going to do anything NOW, either. No one alive today (in this country) has ever owned a slave at the time refered to in the article. The people who did are deceased. It falls to the living to shoulder the responsiblity, and get it done! Do you know how LONG this has ben "discussed" & How many times it hase been brought up to be "tabled" or dismissed or something lame along those lines? Gaaah! I personally have never owned a slave,(or tolerated anyone who did) caused anyone to move to the back of the bus, or (Lord knows) usurped a more-qualified job applicant. That's not the point. It did and has happened here, in my country, to my countrymen and/or their ancestors. It should not have done, and I am very sorry that it did. See? Nothing to it. Even this Act of Congress is going to take an Act of Congress, it seems. RE: Would it help? I hope so.

I believe that there are some in the black community who think that this is one step towards making a claim for reparations.
Think about it...
